in that case, cross out civics from your list because they aren't cool in RS after the endless threads of the Si and fwd failure.

true. If you want to be cool to revsceners then civic is definitely not the choice. Oh and fwd? forget it as well since there's quite a bit of fwd haters too.

Buy a volvo 240, you'd probably prefer a sedan/coupe. It'll cost you all of $200-$2000 tops. Then with the left over money buy some suspension from Kaphlenke, then buy a big holset and all other parts required for a +t and additional parts to support increase power. Might aswell put a t5 and a ford 8.8 in it aswell. If you do that, you should be well under your 8k price bracket and you could easily have a car in the 300+whp range. Oh, and megasquirt aswell.
There, best way to spend 8k. Or you could buy a jdm or some sort...

these are pretty cheap. my brother sold his for 6k last month.. it was an 00 RS, 5sp, w 160k
i would get an ep3 for under 10k.. practical, reliable and fun.. k20 yo! no t belts compared to dc2/ em1

The last one has ugly rims though. X.x
Of those, I would take a look at the black one.
The yellow one I saw in person a few months back. It was sorta beat up.

Buy a car you like and genuinely have interest in. Not just because "omfg I want 5spd" Like you've been saying since you got your Civic.
Wait for something you like that's within your budget, don't just buy something on impulse because it fits the simple criteria of 5speed.

Any car with RWD and a Manuel transmission and you're good to do.

almost none of the suggested (other than the Volvo) would be deemed "safe" by the OP's parent.
Here's something for j00: 2005 Nissan Maxima with the VQ35DE.
http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/nvn/cto/1457634776.html
comes with LSD so you don't worry so much about torque steer or getting stuck in snow.

that is a 2002.. only the SE's came with manual which was 6 speed (optional) and LSD.
the GLE's came standard with traction control , electronic engine mounts, less stiff suspension.
i had a 2000.. i drove both of them before i bought it and it is debatable, but i would prefer the previous VQ30DE-k over the first generation VQ35de.
i dont think i ever got 500kms a tank even with full highway. drinks premium fuel @ 70 or so L. it was probably the quietness and smoothest car i ever owned

not really 'cool' with RS tho. Although with that said unless you want to attract young little underage boys you shouldn't be concerned about what you drive. :haha:
