Take a minute out of your busy day in honour of those who served, please. It's not too much to ask.
This day is the most important of all days, I believe. It doesn't celebrate some god or creation of some province or nation. It is about the sacrifices people have made to ensure our lives are what it is today.
Sometimes forgotten are the Canadian soldiers of Asian descent who fought for our freedoms.
It is not just about the dead. It is also about the survivors and the people who are right now defending our way of life.
I plan to do a lot of stuff today, but come the 11th hour, I will honour those who put everything on the line for me, my family, and you.
Thank you...........

Pay respect to the ones who fought in WW1 & WW2 it's because of them we have the freedom of today. My Grandfather (RIP) was in the navy and the storys he used to tell were beyond crazy from what I can remember!!!

I'm going to call my grandfather today and thank him for the great work he did training pilots in WW2. He was never really given the recognition he deserved.

why does everyone seem to forget about the korean war?
Canadian deaths in Korean war: 516
Canadian deaths in WW2: 45,300
Thats probably why Canadians forget about the Korean war. All numbers aside, we should remember all those that fought for this country and gave us the freedom we have today.
In the past, I was more involved when I was in the army reserves. It is sad and fustrating, to see so many young Canadians take this day so lightly. It is not only a stat holiday- but a day to remember. Sometimes, I tink assimilation isn't so bad an idea.
Everyone likes to take a shot at the Canadian army but everyone forgets how much ass we kicked in Vimy. What were you doing when you were 17? Stories of how kids would want to defend their country so vigilantly that they would lie about their age are common. Just for a chance to serve.

Well, plus the Korean war was a bit of a debacle (not as much so as 'Nam, of course), and it wasn't quite the close-to-home threat that the WWI and especially WWII were.
All numbers aside, we should remember all those that fought for this country and gave us the freedom we have today.
Amen.
A friend of mine wrote this in his FB status today:
Remembrance Day for me has always been a contradiction...I've been vehemently anti-war my whole life, but as I get older I also recognise the supreme (and sometimes ultimate) sacrifice of our men and women in service, and for that I salute them! For the idiots, demagogues, fanatics and politicians who make their sacrifices necessary, I have no respect
Another had this along with a picture she posted:

We truly take a lot for granted.
Forget the football 'heroes' and movie 'stars'.
Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you,
Jesus Christ and a Soldier
One died for your soul; the other for your freedom.

I appreciate the sacrifice our soldiers make every day of the year, not just on this day. Every day that we're out doing our shit, they're over in harms way fighting for us. God bless them and their courage.
I hate it when there are poppies just thrown on the ground. I may be young and immature, but this is one day that I highly respect and wish others my age do the same.

Don't get too worked up - chances are most of them just FELL there. I usually go through a half-dozen every year, because they just vanish off my shirts or jackets. The little pins really aren't the most reliable attachments.

That's true. I usually just put it back through the end of the poppy, kinda like a bobby pin.
