The family of a Connecticut woman mauled and blinded by a chimpanzee is seeking to sue the state for $166.06 million.

Lawyers for Charla Nash's family filed a notice on Wednesday with a state agency asking for permission to sue.

The 90kg chimpanzee named Travis went berserk in February when his owner asked Nash to help lure him back into her house.

The animal ripped off Nash's hands, nose, lips and eyelids. She remains in stable condition at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio.

A Connecticut state biologist had warned state officials beforehand that Travis could seriously hurt someone.

A telephone message was left on Wednesday with the Department of Environmental Protection.

Nash's family has also filed a $55.35 million lawsuit against chimp owner Sandra Herold.

Sorry guys, I posted a link and pics I found but they were not of her. They looked realy familiar though. I think they were of a lady that was shot in the face by an ex or something and got her face reconstructed.

If you want to know what she really looks like now, she's on Oprah and just took her veil off for the first time since the accident. She literally, looks like a monster.

I mean....wouldn't the owner tries to stop the attack as soon as it happens?
I can't imagine how the chimp can rip her face and hands out and cause that kind of damage if the attack only last 20-30 seconds.

and why is the victim suing the state? isn't the chimp privately owned by her friend?

The chimp DESERVES to be in the wild, not caged up and used as a mantle piece. It attacked because that's what wild animals do. The owner is the one who should be shot.

The lady definitely doesn't deserve what happened but she bears some responsibility as well. If I saw a wild animal on the loose, whether it be a bear or chimp I'd GTFO not try to be 'friends' with it.

I can see why her family would sue the owner but why is the state being sued for the stupidity of the people involved?

For those who are curious, the state is being sued because Travis (the chimp) was involved in an incident (it escaped) prior to the attack and a new law was passed that made owning primates over 50 lbs illegal (Travis was 200lbs). However, the state failed to enforce it's own law because they thought Travis was not a danger to humans, thus the reason for the lawsuit.

Saw her on Oprah too. She said they literally took her eyes out because they couldn't keep them in the sockets and her hands "looked like they went through a shredder" according to the paramedics. Though they managed to reattach her right thumb...why bother?
