LHC being sabotaged by the future

As some of you may know, the LHC is the worlds largest science experiment. It's a 24km dia. particle collider meant on uncovering the fundamental elements which create all matter that exists. Basically, they can recreate the events of the big bang in their own laboratory, in a much smaller scale.
A lot of people think that doing this could create a black hole on our planet (search youtube: blackhole LHC), or worse, create another big bang that would consume the rest of the universe along with it.
The machine had successful testing in, I think, early 2009. It was due for its first experiment in summer 09, but a bunch of helium escaped one of the cooling chambers and fucked up a bunch of magnets or something. Then, most recently, some bird dropped some food on some magnets which fucked it up too.
Anyways, the main point of this is, some people speculate that these glitches are more than a "coincidence" and that the machine is actually being sabotaged by the future! Since it has the power to destroy reality as we speak

I don't believe LHC will end the world, I do believe eventually through manipulation of black hole we will be able to time travel.
If this machines makes time traveling possible, this means the day the machines was created the the earliest date ppl from the future can travel too.
possiblity is limitless. Just in case I left my future self a joint in the mailbox in exchange for some sports betting tips

Riiight. Because in the future, we can telepathically control birds from the past.
Some things should just be left alone. Even if there is a 0.0001% chance of this machine doing damage, should a small group of mostly atheist scientists really take that chance?

there is no christian scientist. any scientist that is religious will be look down upon by their colleagues and will lose credibility in their work.
being religious is the exact opposite of being scientific

I don't think this is true. I'm pretty sure there are a lot of scientist who believe in various religions.. But they separate their work and their religion.
ie. a scientists who studies at CERN with the LHC. they don't have to believe that the world was created by a big bang.. but they can still be interested in what would happen if we collided two protons at near light speed. This is completely independent of their religion. They just want to study the phenomena?

That is an unbelievably stupid thing to say... what is our "capacity"? Back when we were cavemen? This is all part of our learning process... if we can under stand it, is it not within our "intellectual capacity"? Or are you content with knowing what you know and never learning more? If so, go back to shitting your pants and crying to getting what you need as you imply that we should never explore the unknown and we should just be content with what we know.

How would people from the future know that this machine will "destroy the world"? Clearly it won't, or else there would be no future. Unless this is some kind of weird "Back to the Future" thing where people in a picture slowly fade away because the past is changing...:high:

I don't know what our capacity is, but I know it's finite. Having said that it's one thing to seek to understand the world we live in, and quite another to conduct an experiment which could potentially destroy humanity. It is not right for a small group of scientists to take a risk like this without due regard for the rights of everyone else.

i believe that without science progressing, our society/economy etc. would be very saturated... by that I mean we wouldn't be gaining more knowledge. Look what science have done to us. All our computers, cell phones, transportation, television, cars, airplanes, everything... all this stuff is science in the technological side. You don't know what other great discovery from the LHC will lead to another innovation.
So i fully support this research!

^ +1 Science = finding out and understanding stuff we didn't know/understand before. The LHC is pretty much the ONLY way (based on current technology) to find out if the Higgs Boson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Higgs_boson) really does exist. Of course if it does, it just validates our understanding of matter. If it turns out our current models are wrong, this could lead to the rewriting of all of our scientific textbooks; even more so than when they found out the world wasn't flat.
This kind of research doesn't just lead to more gadgets. It could lead to huge advances in medicine, travel, stuff that nobody today can even imagine. I'm all for it too.

i think it's safe to assume that scientists want to live as much as we do. if they knew we all had a high chance of dying due to some mini black hole, then would you think they persists this research? they would want to live as much as we do to learn and understand the result of the proton proton collision... they wouldnt want to die and learn nothing from it...
there have been theoretical physicists working and proving theories on why this won't happen or very highly unlikely won't happen.
we all will benefit from this. not only in a sense that higgs boson complete the standard model of physics, but what new data and techniques can we extract from this that will be a leap forward in our society.
sort of what quantum mechanics did for us and etc etc.
I don't know what our capacity is, but I know it's finite.
Don't worry, if it's too much for one person, ppl just specialize. It's like how one person doesn't build a house.. a whole team does it.
Same with science.
Only a fraction of the ppl in the world actually get educated. So our capacity as a whole is way bigger than you think.
And it's not like ppl memorize everything.. we have books and hard drives to store knowledge.

1: this thing is going to do its thing eventually, so if it were people from the future making a bird shit on it, apparently there are still people in the future with an ability do travel in time, so apparently this thing doesnt destroy all everything.
2: if the future people REALLY wanted this thing to not work, they would probably try harder than making a bird shit on something.
and 3rd: the future people have alot more to worry about that this thing, like how we prevent the lizard people taking over in 3 years. or whatever.

"Black holes are usually conceived as being the remnant of a massive star that has used up its nuclear fuel, and crushed itself under its own weight. Its gravitational pull at its surface then becomes so great nothing can escape, not even light. It becomes literally a “hole” in the fabric of space-time, and anything that enters can never escape.
In theory, however, a black hole can be of any size, not just very large ones. Any amount of matter, if crushed in upon itself, can theoretically form a black-hole, albeit a very small one if only a small amount of matter is crushed. Some theories suggested that miniature black holes might have been formed in the earliest history of the Universe. Other theories suggest that particle colliders, by crushing two atoms together at tremendous speed, might create a miniature black hole of very tiny dimension. Stephen Hawking in the early 1970s theorized that such miniature black holes were once in great abundance, but later “evaporated” by a quantum tunneling process, so that such miniature black holes no longer exist in our Universe. This process, first theorized by Stephen Hawking, would possibly cause a black hole to evaporate. "

Are you for real? What are you arguing here?
Do you even know what the machine/experiment is supposed to do?
It is supposed to collide particles together at NEAR LIGHT SPEEDS.
if nothing happens when the particels collide- wtf are the financial backers supposed to do? cook the books and make believe that they found the higgs? Seriosuly?
The fact is, if the LHC can collide TWO particles together... IT IS A SUCCESS. END OF STORY. The Large Hadron Collider is supposed to collide things? and if it does that.. how does it not work? the result is independent of the LHC working. Just because the LHC works, doesn't mean they'll find shit.
