also known as a breathalyzer that you have to get installed in your car, in which u have to blow in everytime u want to start your car. this is due to too many DUIs or 24 hour prohibitions.
anyone here gotten this before or know anyone that has?

You are also stuck with paying for the installation fees, rental fees for a year, and a monthly monitoring fee from what I remember. Comes out to like $1200 per year, or something like that.

wtf I've never even heard of such thing. Its kinda flawed since you can just get a friend to blow it.

But having a friend that can blow it without failing, equals a sober friend that can probably drive.
Stupid if you decide to drive your drunk self instead of letting your sober friend drive if he has a licence.

We had a customer with this type of device installed. She needed to use it whenever she started up her car. It was actually a pretty neat device until we had to move her car out of the shop and she wasn't present. We had to call some Alberta head office thing to get a temp 1-time use code so we could drive it out.

^So the device has a way of knowing who blew into it? (her being the only one able to start it if sober)
Eff-1
11-16-2009, 09:46 PM
No the device can't tell who blew into it. It just needs a sober breath sample.
The device makes you blow again at random times while driving. That is supposed to stop sober people from blowing into the machine to start the car, but then letting a drunk person drive away. Techinically the sober person could ride with a drunk person and blow for them if the machine asks. But who is stupid enough to do that? Letting a drunk person drive with a sober person in the passenger seat... lol.

That's the reason I asked. Unless Mike and the rest of the guys there were all drunk, lol.

Government mandated. I'm sure most people would choose not to have one, but they're forced to anyway.
Not sure of the specifics but it has something to do with DUI's.

May have been part of his conditions of release that he remained sober.

not sure if this is true or not but I heard the people who get it installed actually have to pay out of their own pocket for it.
sooner or later somebody is going to find a way to hack/modify it.
but the idea where you have to blow every 5-10 mins is smart cuz you cant just ask your friend to blow it to start the car.
(a friend thats not going with you... if you have a sober friend going with you, your an idiot for still trying to drive yourself)

"When the device is installed, you will pay the
$150 program fee, plus Guardian's $150
installation fee. With monthly monitoring
costs of $105, an alcohol interlock will cost you
over $1,500 for one year. On top of that, the
RDP will cost you $880."
anwsers my question. damn thats expensive shit

We've all heard the stories of someone getting their underage kids to drive because they were too drunk to drive themselves,so it isn't a stretch that they'd get their kids to provide a breath sample.
