WTB: Maxtor Diamondmax Plus 8 40gb HD [Archive]

I'm trying to DIY a hard drive recovery by finding an identical drive to get the PCB board. Does anyone have either a Maxtor Diamondmax Plus 8 40 GB hard drive? I will buy it off of you immediately! I prefer a working one, but if it doesn't work because of clicking or other physical damage I'll take it too. As long as the circuit board isn't fried.

I took the hard drive from a computer that didn't work, and plugged it into my desktop. Something short-circuited inside and fried the pcb board. I need to recover some important files from the hard drive.

Is it the one drive that is awkwardly slim?

I might have one. Have to see in which external case or system it is.

I'm not sure if it is slim. I have taken a couple pictures of it, I can e-mail it to you to see if it is the same if you PM an e-mail address.

The model number is:
6E040L0

Code: NAR61590 (i think it is the firmware code)

The code on the biggest chip on the board is 040110100.

Basically, all of this has to match to do a board swap.

Sorry man, turns out the drive I had in mind wasn't the same one. It's a Maxtor Fireball 3.

If that falls through, let me know. I have at least two or three of them. Those drives were dropping like flies at a friends' workplace, he decided to replace all of them. As you've guessed, it's the controller pcb that goes bad -- all of the data on the drive will still be there once you swap a good controller on.

Hi all,

The first guy that contacted me had a matching hard drive. I swapped the PCB board, and the hard drive runs. But unfortunately the bios recognizes it as N40P. I did a google search, and found it it is a firmware issue that isn't on the board. Would anyone know how to fix this? Apparently, only those data recovery pro's can do it. I'm still looking for options so I don't have to pay $750 for it.
