: Leaked Climate Change data might prove there isn't such thing.

What if human activites are not causing climate change? ;)

Any RS member interested in viewing the data could get it from the internet.

Hundreds of private e-mails and documents hacked from a computer server at a British university are causing a stir among global warming skeptics, who say they show that climate scientists conspired to overstate the case for a human influence on climate change.

The e-mails, attributed to prominent American and British climate researchers, include discussions of scientific data and whether it should be released, exchanges about how best to combat the arguments of skeptics, and casual comments--in some cases derisive--about specific people known for their skeptical views. Drafts of scientific papers and a photo collage that portrays climate skeptics on an ice floe were also among the hacked data, some of which dates back 13 years.

At first, said Michaels, the climatologist who has faulted some of the science undergirding the global-warming consensus, his instinct was to ignore the correspondence as "just the way scientists talk."

But on Friday, he said, after reading more deeply, he felt that some exchanges reflected a concerted effort to block the release of data for independent review.

He said that some e-mails mused about a way to discredit him by challenging the veracity of his doctoral dissertation at the University of Wisconsin by claiming he knew his research was wrong.

In a 1999 e-mail exchange about charts showing climate patterns over the last two millennia, Phil Jones, a longtime climate researcher at the East Anglia Climate Research Unit, said he had used a "trick" employed by another scientist, Michael Mann, to "hide a decline" in temperatures.

Mann, a professor at Pennsylvania State, confirmed in an interview that the e-mail was real. He said the choice of words by his colleague was poor but noted that scientists often use the word "trick" to refer to a good way to solve a problem, "and not something secret." "It sounds incriminating, but when you look at what you're talking about, there's nothing there," Mann said.

Global warming is for the benefit of the scientists. They are the ones who are getting the attention and funding.

Case in point.....David "the prick" Suzuki has always played the media to look like a genius and get on the world stage.

BTW, David Suzuki is not of Japanese origin. He got cosmetic surgery done so he could look Asian. There's no Asian in him. If he were to look like any other caucasian scientist, he'd be nothing special.

Aircare won't really go away,it will just come back in another form of tax to make up for the lost revenue generated by aircare.

Climate change help for the poor 'has not materialised'
cattle carcas on drought landscape

Large sums promised to developing countries to help them tackle climate change cannot be accounted for, a BBC investigation has found.

Rich countries pledged $410m (£247m) a year in a 2001 declaration - but it is now unclear whether the money was paid.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has accused industrialised countries of failing to keep their promise.

The EU says the money was paid out in bilateral deals, but admits it cannot provide data to prove it.

I took ecology at UBC and my prof said people do not give the earth enough credit.
he said, "The earth is one resilient mother fucker".
He actually swore.

He also said that there is no significant data that humans have cause/changed anything significant in our climate. he also, said that global warming is a joke. Where this is also no significant data to implicate that we're doing anything to make the earth warmer...

65 million years ago, when the dinosaurs ruled the earth, the mean temperature was about 15-20 degrees C higher...

the earth goes through cycles.. this is what i learned... he said there are too many people who think they know what is going on and and have a grasp of how the world works...

We can't even accurately predict the weather...
This is just what i learned.. it seems pretty logical to me. but nothing is for certain..

LOL I remember Dick Suzuki was on the radio saying

"why waste clean and purified water on your lawn?"

my answer is "coz if I don't fucking use it it's going to go back into the sea? Or do you want me to pee into the lawn instead?"

Is he realistically thinking about building water pipes around half the globe or something and feed the water to 3rd world countries? US buys our water yes, but we are still having way too much water for our population, just drive around a bit.

Crowtservo

It sounds like fox news in here. People are just throwing out talking points and opinions seemingly based on nothing. I realize some people are being sarcastic but it seems others believe they know what they are talking about.

The only controversy is how fast the climate is changing and what implications that will have. You're right mx703, "the earth is one resilient mother fucker". Unfortunately humans are not and it is more likely the earth will adapt and live on and humans will die out (no I'm not saying this is what is going to happen).

The greenhouse effect is fact. The amount of change we have experienced is measurable. The amount of anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions (carbon, methane, sulfur etc.) is measurable. The uncertainty is what effect other factors (cloud libedo, surface radiation, how much carbon the oceans can absorb) will have.

We're not going to see some catastrophic 2012 type event but you can't argue the fact that the earth is, and will continue to, change.

If people want to have an intelligent conversation about it I'm happy to but don't just repeat stuff you hear on the news or from others. Research and decide for yourself. If you want some good scientific reports (not the political garbage) to read I have many good sources for you.

Oh and I wrote a term paper on carbon tax vs cap and trade (emissions trading) and I can tell you it isn't "bullshit" but the politics supporting it might be.

From my limited-knowelge,

You have to realize how absolutely insignificant humans are in the grand scheme of things. We are so incredibly minute and useless, the only beings that think human life is of any consequence are other humans.

We're just a bunch of beings thriving in an environment that happens to be right for us at this short point in the planet's history. It wasn't always like this, and it won't be like this forever. Nothing we do has changed that, one way or the other.

Global warming...not a big deal. Global pollution...BIG DEAL. Our oceans are filling up with plastic...not the best for fish/animals that live in it. Never mind the oil spills and oil run-off from our streets. Then the one I'm wondering about... How many nuclear powered submaines are sitting at the bottom of the ocean just corroding away waiting to let all that nice shit into the ocean? That'll be nice :)

If he was so concerned about the earth and greenhouse gases,he should be biking everywhere, not driving or riding in anything that has a internal cumbustion engine.

He should also convert his home to run on solar and windpower to power all his electrical appliances,I wonder if his stove, hot water heater and furnace all run on natural gas?

Shit,I think he should not even wear glasses, considering what it took to make them, the amount of greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere to make the steelframes and the glass lense.

Yes. Glaciers can grow in size, if the snow accumlation rate exceeds snow Ablation rate.

Diverting lakes and rivers could alter the local climate, but not to a gobal scale.

The Aral sea is only 5% of its formal size. Surrounding areas have been observed to be colder in winter and hotter in the summer.

Scientists are liars. All of them. Down with science. Nuke the scientists.

dude if you're not gonna believe the scientists, who you gonna believe? the priests? haha...

I'm aware of what forum this is, I've been around for 5+ years.

Honestly I expected remotely intelligent remarks.

Your last comment implies that my input should be somehow discounted as it was only a "term paper" even though it was for my environmental sciences minor at university. It's a topic I'm passionate about and certainly know more about than you so i hardly think you are entitled to scoff at my experience.

...if you've been here for 5+ years you should know who you're arguing against. and he's far more qualified than you are.
