Hmmm....I may be interested in the 400mm.

Why do you want the 1D mkIII? It's not very good.

Let me know Senna. Maybe we can work something out.

ID3 because i want it for birding and nature and its supposted to be a pretty nice setup! I've thought about the whole 7d/1d and its going back and forth. 1.6 crop would be nice for focal lenght. I dunno. Any thoughts you can help me out with?

I basically want good ISO coverage, high FPS, and awesome AI Focus.

Right now, I'd get the 7D over the mkIII, even though you give up the weather sealing and durability of the 1D series. The 7D is lighter, almost as fast, and you can shoot video for behavioral studies. The screen on the 7D is light years ahead of the mkIII screen. I'd say the screen itself is worth getting the 7D. Noise is also better on the 7D. Now, if you want to compare the mkIV, then things may change. Ask yourself if you really want to lug around a 1D body....personally, I don't. :)

As soon as I get a mkIV, I'll let you play with it so you can make up your mind.

Damn, I was thinking about the 400mm too lol
And I'd go with the 7D over MKIII, and I'm not saying that just because I own a 7D ;)

7D over 1D huh? The screen on the 7D the same as the 5d MKII? I love the screen on the 5d mkii! Weather sealing on the 1D would be really nice as well. How would the 7D's weather sealing compare to the 5d mkii?

7D over 1D mkIII, but 1D mkIV over 7D if you can swing it, but keep in mind the pixel count differences between the two/three.

BC has the 7D on sale now, would like to pick this up soon! This is the route i'm most likely going to go. *sigh* I'm going to miss the full frame sensor of the 5d mkii.

LOL people who compare FF to 1.6x crop is nuts LOL

Uh yeah thanks. I need the reach and speed for nature photography. The last time i checked the 5D MKII has pretty bad AF, its a slow 3 frames per sec. and the 7D holds its own for a crop camera. So basically, no not nuts. It just suits my style better. :)

Since when is anyone comparing FF to a crop?

I have a copy of a 7D myself....Unfortanely my xsi produced sharper images! But i must admit, the AF on the 7d is phenomenal.

Erm, no. Are you comparing the images between your XSi and 7D using the same lens/es? What lens/es are you using? If you're using the kit lens (or any of the low-end EF-S lenses) that came with the XSi, then yes, the XSi will produce sharper images. This has to do with the lens itself, not the bodies. The 18-55 isn't a very sharp lens, but on a 12MP XSi body, it doesn't really matter as much, as the sensor can cope with the relatively low resolving power of the lens. Now, you put that same lens on a high pixel density 18MP 7D, then the sensor is now out-resolving the lens resulting in what looks like an unsharp image. It was always unsharp...you just didn't notice it on a 12MP body.

Um... get the Canon 15-85mm IS lens then tell me which produces better images...

The 17-85 and the 15-85 are TOTALLY different lenses. Read a bit closer. And i don't think this is the right thread for it, so if you'd like to make a new one in the appropriate place that's great!
