The officers were inside a crowded coffee shop working on laptop computers, when two men armed with guns stormed inside.

Cop Killers. They are definitely going to get it up the ass big time. I'd be surprised if any of them make it into custody, if caught.

^^ This.

What would make 2 people hunt and kill 4 armed cops, together in a public place? Crazed gunmen? Just for the thrill of it? Gangbangers seeking revenge?

Naw, there's gotta be more to this story.

Apparently a Seattle cop was shot dead last month. The cop was parked on the side of the street wrapping up a traffic stop. Some car pulled up beside the parked cop car, and fired shots into the cop car. The officer was shot dead.

TACOMA, WASHINGTON - Four police officers have been shot and killed in a busy coffee shop in what's being described as an ambush killing near Tacoma, Washington. The killings happened in the community of Parkland, just south of Tacoma at around 8:15 a.m.

The three men and one woman from the Lakewood detachment, were killed as they sat working on their laptops, when the gunman stormed inside.

Police are now looking for just one suspect, but they do have a pretty good description of the gunman. A $10,000 reward has already been offered.

Detective Ed Troyer with the Pierce County Sheriff's Department says it's still very early in the investigation. "We don't know what happened as far as how many shots were fired or what has happened, whether they were able to shoot back. We're not going to be able to know that until we do a reconstruction on it. We do know none of the employees or witnesses were hurt, they are with us and all fine." Police are canvassing the area and are interviewing witnesses.

A white pick-up truck possibly connected to the incident was loaded onto a flatbed truck, but investigators are releasing few details.

More than 100 police cruisers and a canine team are searching the area. The area around the coffee shop remains cordoned off. Keep it on News1130 as we'll bring you the very latest as the story develops.

http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/11/30/washington.police.shooting/index.html
Seattle, Washington (CNN) -- The suspect in the fatal shooting of four police officers kept authorities at bay early Monday -- seven hours after a massive manhunt tracked him to a house in an east Seattle neighborhood.

Authorities had been looking for Maurice Clemmons in connection with an "ambush" Sunday morning at a coffee shop near Tacoma in Pierce County. Four officers -- three males, one female -- died in the attack.

Authorities identified the victims as Sgt. Mark Renninger, 39; Officer Ronald Owens, 37; Officer Tina Griswold, 40; and Officer Greg Richards, 42. All four had been with the department since its inception, and all of them were parents.

Witnesses told police they had seen Clemmons struck in the leg by a bullet while he struggled with an officer during the attack.

Early Monday, authorities started identifying Clemmons as a suspect, rather than as someone wanted for questioning.

Police were not looking for anyone else, but had arrested several people who had "helped" Clemmons, said Pierce County sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer.

The night before the shootings, Clemmons had threatened to kill police officers, but witnesses did not report those threats till after the slayings, Troyer told "Good Morning America."

About 8 p.m. Sunday, police received word that Clemmons had holed up in a home in the Leschi neighborhood.

Police blocked off streets and asked residents to stay inside with their doors locked.

Not knowing the extent of Clemmons' wounds, paramedics stood by to assess his condition once the standoff ended.

At 4:30 a.m., police were preparing to send a robot door-to-door in the cluster of residences that make up the property where Clemmons is believed to be hiding, said Seattle police spokesman Jeff Kappel.

Repeated attempts to make contact with Clemmons were unsuccessful, he said.

Clemmons is a convicted criminal with a long rap sheet who had a 95-year prison sentence commuted in 2000 by then-Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, said Pierce County sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer.

Huckabee, a Republican presidential candidate in 2008, is considering a run for president in 2012.

"Should [Clemmons] be found responsible for this horrible tragedy, it will be the result of a series of failures in the criminal justice system in both Arkansas and Washington state," Huckabee's office said in a statement Sunday night.

Clemmons, 37, of Pierce County has an "extensive violent criminal history from Arkansas, including aggravated robbery and theft," the sheriff's department said in a statement.

He also was recently charged in Pierce County in the assault of a police officer and rape of a child, according to the statement.

Troyer said Arkansan law enforcement officials had indicated that they were willing to forgo Clemmons' warrants in that state to avoid extraditing him if needed.

Clemmons was sentenced to 95 years in prison in 1989 for a host of charges, including robberies, burglaries, thefts and bringing a gun to school.

During a pretrial hearing, he hid a piece of metal in his sock, media reports at the time said. Before the start of another hearing, he grabbed a padlock off his holding cell and threw it at a court bailiff. He missed, and the lock hit his mother, who had come to bring him clothes.

Huckabee cited Clemmons' young age -- 17 at the time of his sentencing -- when he announced his decision to commute the sentence, according to newspaper articles.

Clemmons was paroled in August 2000, after serving 11 years of his sentence.

"It was not something I was pleased with at the time," said Larry Jegley, who prosecuted Clemmons for aggravated robbery and other charges in Pulaski County, Arkansas. "I would be most distressed if this is the same guy."

Huckabee's office said Clemmons' commutation was based on the recommendation of the parole board that determined that he met the conditions for early release.

"He was arrested later for parole violation and taken back to prison to serve his full term, but prosecutors dropped the charges that would have held him," the statement said.

CNN could not immediately confirm the account. But the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette newspaper reported that a year after his release, Clemmons was arrested for aggravated robbery and theft.

He was taken back to prison for parole violation. But, said the paper, he was not served with the arrest warrants for the robbery and theft charges until he left prison three years later, in 2004.

His attorney argued the charges should be dismissed because too much time had passed by then. Prosecutors dropped the charges.

Clemmons is thought to have moved to Washington that year, and for a while ran a pressure-washing and landscaping business. The license for the business expired last month, according to the secretary of state's office, with which businesses have to register.

In recent months, Clemmons has displayed increasingly erratic behavior, the Seattle Times reported. In May, he punched a sheriff's deputy in the face, the paper said.

In another incident, he had relatives undress, telling them families need to be "naked for at least five minutes on Sunday," the newspaper said, citing a sheriff's department incident report.

Clemmons also believed he was Jesus and could fly, a deputy wrote, based on conversations with family members.

After serving several months in jail on a pending charge of second-degree rape of a child, Clemmons was released on bond six days ago, according to the Seattle Times.

Sunday's shooting was the first for the Lakewood police department, which was created five years ago for the town of nearly 60,000. Until then, the Pierce County sheriff's office provided law enforcement services there.

The four officers were awaiting the start of their shift at a coffee shop in Parkland, a unincorporated community just south of Lakewood and about 10 miles from Tacoma.

The officers were in uniform and had marked patrol cars parked outside.

The shop on Steele Street is a popular hangout for law enforcement officers and is one of 22 Forza Coffee Co. locations in Washington.

"As a retired police officer, this senseless shooting hits extremely close to home to me," Brad Carpenter, chief executive officer of Forza, said in a statement on the company's Web site.

The attack occurred without warning.

"There's not going to be a big motive other than he was upset about being incarcerated and was going to go gunning after cops in general," Troyer told reporters.

The shooter walked past the officers to the counter as if to order coffee before he pulled the gun out of his coat and opened fire at 8:15 a.m., the sheriff's office said.

Two of the officers were "executed" as they sat at a table, said Troyer, the sheriff's spokesman.

Another was shot when he stood up and the fourth was shot after struggling with the gunman all the way out the door, Troyer said.

Two baristas and other customers inside the shop were unharmed. "Just the law enforcement officers were targeted," Troyer said, calling the shooting an ambush.

"What happened in there wasn't just a shooting," he told reporters. "After, we believe, some of the officers were shot, one of them managed to fight his way with the suspect -- fight his way, wrestle, fight all the way out the the doorway until he was shot and died of a gunshot wound.

Witnesses told police they had seen the suspect hit by a gunshot. Investigators checked area hospitals to determine whether the gunman sought medical treatment. A $10,000 reward was offered for information leading to an arrest.

Read what I bolded/underlined. At least 1 officer fought for his life. Do you know what that means? The cop didn't want to lose his life, lose his family, or let the guy who just shot and killed his friends go.

For some you guys to jump to conclusions and spread unsubstantiated/uncorroborated rumors about them being some sort of "dirty cops" is disrespectful to the cops, their familes, and the people close to them. We know nothing about them. The fact that neither you and I know any of them just means that we should respect their memory until more news is released. It does not mean go make up your own facts because you think you know what happened from watching CSI:NY. This is common sense. This is what society promotes, sound reasoning.

The fact that 1 officer genuinely fought for his life, knowing what he/she stood to lose, means that guy is a hero. He didn't run and hide. For some of you to assume they were dirty or crooked before you could grasp any bit of the situation is disgusting. Not only are you spitting on their memory, but spitting on their families too. They were all parents, which means there are at least 4 more kids out there who lost either a mother or father yesterday. That's sad.

Whatever irregular behavior or abnormality that drives some of you to promote such slander in such a situation, instead of genuinely considering the ripples and magnitude such an event causes to others, I hope you correct it, because there is something wrong with you. You are what's wrong with RS these days.

I know this will fall on deaf ears for some. So be it.

There is no way if this guy is still alive he is gonna be alive after the cops find him.
I'm not even saying that the cops will shoot him for doing what he did. After reading that article 7seven posted you know he is gonna try to take down as many cops as he possibly can.

Maybe that's the whole point. Maybe he's decided that he wants to die and wants to take as many cops with him as possible since they incarcerated him in the first place. Some kind of revenge/suicide?

Either way RIP to the cops that have already died and any more people who do because of this guy.

Yup, they got him. The question now is whether any of his friends are going to do time for aiding a criminal.

Seattle, Washington (CNN) -- The man wanted in the fatal shooting of four police officers was shot and killed Tuesday in south Seattle, Washington, after he challenged police who approached him, authorities said.

The Seattle police department confirmed to the Pierce County sheriff's office that Maurice Clemmons was killed in the shooting, sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer said.

Troyer could not immediately say whether Clemmons was armed or whether he exchanged gunfire with police in the 2 a.m. confrontation. Troyer was headed to the scene and said authorities will have more information in a news conference set for later in the morning.

"The Seattle police department is the agency that shot and killed him after the incident occurred," he said. "We had supplied information to them earlier on multiple occasions where the suspect could possibly be at, along with a bunch of other police agencies that were running multiple operations. And at this point we do have the suspect. He's no longer out there."

Monday night, investigators had rounded up several of Clemmons' relatives and friends to keep them from helping him elude police.

Some of Clemmons' family and friends had tried to help him seek treatment for a gunshot wound that he suffered during the Sunday attack. They also called in false leads to police to divert investigators, Troyer said.

The incident ended a two-day manhunt for Clemmons, 37, that began Sunday after an ambush-style killing of four police officers from Lakewood, about 40 miles south of Seattle.

The slain officers were identified as Sgt. Mark Renninger, 39; Officer Ronald Owens, 37; Officer Tina Griswold, 40; and Officer Greg Richards, 42. All of them were parents and had been with the department since its inception.

Clemmons was an ex-convict with a long rap sheet in Washington and Arkansas, according to authorities and documents.

Witnesses say Clemmons was shot in the torso during the Sunday morning attack, and blood and gauze bandages were found in a truck linked to Clemmons, Troyer said.

Clemmons is thought to have slipped away from a home in Seattle's Leschi neighborhood Sunday night, before police surrounded the residence for about 12 hours. He was not found in the home when the investigators moved in Monday morning, Seattle police spokesman Jeff Kappel said.

The night before the shootings, Clemmons had threatened to kill police officers, but witnesses did not report those threats until after the slayings, Troyer said on ABC's "Good Morning America."

Clemmons was accused of child rape and assaulting a police officer in May. He had been released on $150,000 bond five days before the shootings, according to court records.

After his arrest, Clemmons' sister told police that he "had not been himself lately" and that his behavior was "unpredictable and erratic."

"He had said that the Secret Service was coming to get him because he had written a letter to the president," an affidavit quoted her as telling investigators.

In addition, neighbors had complained that he had been throwing rocks through their windows.

In 2000, then-Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee commuted a 95-year prison sentence for Clemmons, according to documents from the Arkansas Department of Community Correction. He returned to prison in 2001 but was paroled in 2004.

"Should he be found responsible for this horrible tragedy, it will be the result of a series of failures in the criminal justice system in both Arkansas and Washington state," Huckabee's office said in a statement Sunday night.

I think the only real explanation behind this is that this guy was fucking nuts and had a few mental issues. This was a guy who made his family strip for naked Sundays, thought he was Jesus and could fly, threw rocks through neighbor's windows and thought the Secret Service was after him.

By all accounts, these 4 officers where good officers, no complaints against them and with good service records. This appears to be just a case of a nutjob with a grudge against police that ambushed 4 officers having coffee before their shifts started. They didn't stand a chance, no matter how well trained they were, the female officer even spent time on the SWAT team, who really expects to be ambushed while having their daily coffee by a gun wielding nutjob. The really tragic part is that now there are 9 children who just lost a parent.

I would hope so

Several people who allegedly tried to help Clemmons elude police have been arrested, said Ed Troyer, a spokesman for the Pierce County Sheriff's Office.

"They're going to pay for it," he said.

Given what happened on Sunday morning, I guess this is the best ending. Get rid of him permanently. The justice system won't be able to mess up again.

From The Province:

SEATTLE — Maurice Clemmons, the suspect wanted in the slaying of four Lakewood, Wash., police officers, was shot and killed in Seattle early Tuesday morning by a police officer making a routine check of a stolen car.

The shooting occurred about the same time as Pierce County sheriff's detectives took into custody a man believed to have acted as a getaway driver in Sunday's slayings of the officers. Police also booked four people into jail on suspicion of providing assistance to Clemmons, said sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer.

Clemmons, who was armed with a handgun taken from one of the officers he is accused of killing, was shot during a confrontation with an officer, police said. He refused commands to stop and was shot by the officer about 2:45 a.m.

Troyer said Clemmons had an older wound to his stomach believed to be the result of a gunshot fired by one of the Lakewood officers killed Sunday. Troyer said he was surprised Clemmons survived that wound.

Seattle police said the officer was on routine patrol when he saw a car with the hood up and the engine running.

The officer ran the licence plate and determined the car had been stolen, said Seattle Assistant Chief Jim Pugel.

As the officer sat in his patrol car doing paperwork on the stolen car, he noticed a man was approaching the driver's side of the patrol car from behind.

The officer recognized the man as matching the description of Clemmons and got out his patrol car, Pugel said.

"He ordered the person to stop. He ordered the person to show his hands, that person would not show his hands, and also began to run away counterclockwise around the vehicle," Pugel said.

The officer again told him to stop and he didn't comply, Pugel said.

The officer then fired several shots at Clemmons, who was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Clemmons has been the focus of a massive manhunt since Sunday morning, when he is accused of killing four police officers in a coffee shop.

Authorities said the gunman singled out the Lakewood officers and spared employees and other customers at the coffee shop.

Killed were Sgt. Mark Renninger, 39, and Officers Ronald Owens, 37, Tina Griswold, 40, and Greg Richards, 42.

Police said they aren't sure what prompted Clemmons to shoot the officers as they did paperwork on their laptops. Clemmons was described as increasingly erratic in the past few months and had been arrested earlier this year on charges that he punched a sheriff's deputy in the face.
