Useless junk from your childhood
hongy

I'm currently packing up to move to a new house, and I've uncovered years worth of junk. I'm talking about yugioh cards, pokemon cards, beyblades, digimon cards, and like 5 more card game stuff. There's also my bags of bionicles. :( wasted so much money on these things.
I'm sure everyone has done something like this in their childhood. So list them or something because packing is boring ass shit.

Not useless but I have about 8000 Hot Wheels, unopened, some over 25 years old.
Magic Cards.
Wasted a good deal of time and money on that stuff.
Surprised it wasn't on your list.

For me it was Battle Beasts and GI Joes. Lots of He-Man too, and some Transformers (actually Go-Bots, we were too poor to afford Transformers back then). Oh yeah, TONS of Ninja Turtle stuff. That was the last toy I played with.

About Pokemon cards.. if you have MINT completed sets then they go for a pretty price now (although I'd wait a couple more years for the nostalgic value to go back up)
If you just have random cards.. if you have some of the valuble cards and they're in mint condition, you could sell them for a pretty decent price (more than you think you could now, but obviously less than at its peak). If you have a PSA membership, you could up the value of it more and get it graded.
I honestly think that if you wait maybe another 10-20 more years, they'll be people wanting to buy it off of you (and I say this because they'll become scarce one day). Until then, it's going on its downward spiral cause it's only been recent that Pokemon has had its downfall (ie around or less than 10 years). Although I say this, I hope you don't use it as a basis for your financial future =P
How do I know this? Because I was crazy into Pokemon cards back in the day, and I've recently sold a couple of my completed sets, but hung on to a couple for the future.

Holy shit I spent so much fucking money on Pokemon cards before when it was crazy...now I wish I hadn't spent so much cause its now useless shit anyways..I think I have most of the cards up until the Gloom/Forest pack thing, even the rigged 120hp Charizard ;) LOL
I still remember going to 7-11 almost everyday to see if they have any booster-packs or more full-box sets to buy, those packs were like $30 FUCKKKKKKK and the booster-packs were like $10 :( :( :( man i wasted so much fucking money on that shit that it's not even funny..
I have a shitload of hockey cards that were passed down from my uncle, apparently hockey cards were the CRAZIEST things back in the day, have like 2-4 huge cookie tin jar-cans full of them, hopefully they'll be valuable one day :)
Pogs...I remember them but parents probably threw them out already. Bought a $35 deck of magic cards and that's it, wasn't too addicted to it...Yu-Gi-Oh! was another fucking money waster...spent just as much on this or maybe a little less like Pokemon cards...had a lot of the really good cards and even bought a whole box of booster packs, yes a whole box of unopened booster packs....hell now I don't even know where they are, probably in a binder or box somewhere down at the garage..
Beyblades was alright, bought a few of them @ $20 or so then that's basically all you needed and fucking $1-$3 rip-plastic things that kept on ripping and breaking if you pull on it weird and awkwardly...$20 whip-launcher, $40 customized dragoon launcher, $10 arena...more money down the drain..
Also transformers was pretty big too back in the day but they were SOOOO EXPENSIVE, like $40+ for one of those crazy ones...I always wanted optimus prime but I got the Shark guy that shoots stuff out from his stomach and some others...I have no idea why they were so fucking expensive ARGHHH and Power Rangers transformers were pretty expensive too..not sure how much though just know that they were expensive..
If only I can take all that money back wasted on fads and stupid things, I would have a lot more spending money now for investing...sigh

The problem with today’s parenting strategies is that there is too much emphasis on buying loads of useless junk for kids and it all ends up gathering dust in storage or taking up space in a landfill.

I wouldn't get too excited about the Pokemon TCGs.
The target audience is still kids, and generally, collectors aren't really all that interested in them.
What I'm saying is, there will be collectors for all sorts of cards, but Pokemon TCG isn't exactly a high valued collectible item.
That being said, people still play Pokemon, but not with those cards.
Tournaments happen every year, and cards (sets) get rotated out.
The cards you guys have are ancient. Maybe if you're very lucky, some collector
might buy it... but people that actually play the game would find no use for that.

I've got too much to list but some highlights:
I've got a bunch of ancient software and such:
- A mint copy of IBM's Disk Operating System manual circa 1986.
- Actual 5.25" Floppy Disk set for A-10 Tank Killer including manual.
- MS DOS version of KidPix in box.
- Bunch more but its put away somewhere.
- Original Gameboy with games including Tetris
- Hockey cards from 86-92
I still use my old Sony Sports Walkman from time to time and listen to my old cassettes and mix tapes. Primarily it has AM radio for listening to Blazer and Canuck games, Dan Russell's SportsTalk, and Coast 2 Coast AM for some laughs.
