My friend bought a car in washington state recently, and apparently the couple were "in the military" and "stationed in japan". I don't know too much about the situation but she said she is having a few problems with this, and said that the bill of sale has only one signature. She paid with a cheque. Is there any chance or way that they could scam her?

Thanks

yes. If she doesn't have the title to the car in hand (pink slip) and sent the check, and if she further has no vin/ copies of driver's licenses etc, i'd put money on the fact she's not going to have a merry xmas.

Ok i just asked her and she said she has the title and she gave the cheque to them in person, but she said she doesn't have copies of her drivers licenses.

Sounds like something a scammer would say.

yeah thats what i said to her. then i found http://www.fraudguides.com/craigslist-car-scams.asp down at the bottom it says "seller claims to be in the military and is stationed overseas" although she did in fact exchange the cheque in person.. they claimed to be moving to Japan to be stationed there instead. I think its fishy..I'm not too sure how this scam would work though if it was a scam as the car is now sitting at the u.s. border and she has the key in hand...

As long as you get the official Report of Sale from WA gov, you are good to go.

Not to be rude but have you ever taken a peek at what happens outside of your bedroom walls?
