METRO VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Two bomb-sniffing dogs will be joining Metro Vancouver's Transit Police.

They'll be on the job before the 2010 Winter Olympic Games begin in February. The animals will help guard against potential terrorism, but won't be used to find drugs or chase suspects.

You can expect to see the dogs on Skytrains, in the stations, on buses and at bus loops. The 2 year pilot project was approved by the Transit Police Board this fall.

Only problem i see is they SHOULD have drug sniffing dogs that chase after suspects . Then again those dogs would die from being overworked esp in Surrey. LOL

Hmm, I almost had a K9 unit brought out to find me...

Kinda counter intuitive that they wont sniff out drugs..

These K-9 units will be very useful once winter Olympic comes into full swing. Terrorist attacks are a much higher priority than street level drug dealers.

Dogs are awesome. Therefore, this news is awesome.

Kidding aside, it sounds like a good idea.

yay more power in those tools' hands!

Now instead of hammers and screwdrivers, the transit police can be power tools made by Makita!

I wonder if you are carrying matchsticks, will the dogs mistaken that for a bomb.....I mean, what does a bomb smell like? Probably the stuff that makes matchsticks are in bombs.

I hope they one day institute drug sniffing dogs. Of course, pivot legal will probably say that it's an invasion of transit users' rights and that they should have to pay restitution to all the druggies they've arrested.
