Just got a call from shaw saying they'll upgrade my internet to their new 100mbps service free for a month... saying they'll give me a call after the month is over if i want to cancel or something...

I didnt even know they had this and did some research and found:

http://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Shaw-Launches-100Mbps-Broadband-100712

So basically a free month of internet then cancel, who the hell is gonna pay $250 a month for internet...

You better remember to call and cancel (even though they say they are going to call); or they may just enroll you and start charging you next month.

Still too expensive...regular high speed is good enough for me...

If I was gonna pay $250 a month for internet I'd sure as hell expect no bandwidth limits. 200GB is ridiculous, I get that now with my 7MB for $30.

I do 300GB a month on extreme (100GB cap) and I negotiated a deal with retentions for it to be $35 permanently. :D

:damn: that's insane. They just don't charge you for the overage?? That's my one worry of switch to shaw when I move back to Vancouver is I easily use 250GB a month and shaw doesn't seem to offer anything that high.

27mpbs is fast enough for me. 100mbps would just be overkill. And not worth the extra $120/mo for that matter.

100mbps is definately overkill for home even small office useage.
even with a comp with 10TB it will fill up so quickly

HKBN's speed sucks for overseas.... and I couldn't get HKBN at my place anyways... their coverage are all for poor fucks that live in public housing!

So they came and "installed" (just switched modems) my new modem:

http://www.motorola.com/Business/US-EN/Business+Product+and+Services/Cable+Broadband/SURFboard+Modems+and+Gateways/Motorola+SURFboard+SB6120_US-EN

No noticeable bump in download speed, just upload...

Do they need to upgrade from your old modem to a new one before the free month of 100mbps internet starts?

I just checked my Local Area Connection speed is 100mbs but I don't recall getting a call from them...

Found out the problem, my router was holding it back, it can handle about 30mbps, so if you want this kind of speed, you need to connect directly to the internet, or buy a router that can handle the speed...

As for the new modem, they needed to upgrade it cause, I believe, the old modem can only handle like 30mbps...

you need to have the docsis 3 modem before you can take full advantage of the nitro service

Is that the latest modem from Shaw?

I'm on the old modem right now, will I notice any speed gains?
which old modem are you talking about?

if you're using terayon and switch to motorola, then yes, you will notice an increase in speeds

currently, there's no method to use the docsis 3 modem on anything other than the nitro service
