What is Honda smoking? ZDX $ vs crosstour $

Honda Accord crosstour:
3.5 L, SOHC, i-vtec V6
271 hp @ 6200
254 torque @ 5000
5-speed auto
FWD (optional 4WD)
appearance: chick + guy repellent
$36 450 (base model)
Acura ZDX:
3.7 L, SOHC, vtec V6
300 hp @ 6300
270 torque @ 4500
6-speed auto
SH-AWD
appearance: chick + guy repellent
$55 990 (base model)
Why is the ZDX so much more when it's basically the same thing as the crosstour except for a minor boost in power and a different badge?
I doubt anyone would pay $55 990 (before taxes and options) for that over other options.

hp and torque aren't the only factor when you talk about cars' value..

i'd be hard pressed to spend $55,000 on something as sinfully ugly as the ZDX
it looks like a door jam, and not the nice plastic ones, it's like an old wedge shaped piece of wood from the garage.
edit: optional 4wd on the accord? MY GOD that'd be a wonderful car to own.

ya.. i know.. but seriously..
usually I'll say there are people out there with soo much money that they will end up buying it, but I just don't think my theory applies to the ZDX for the following reasons:
- ZDX is a rebadged accord crosstour (so why not just get the crosstour instead?)
- style is not unique since there are the crosstour and x6
- there is no special history behind it
- it's not limited production or rare (well maybe it's rare if very few are sold)
- it's not very good looking // chicks don't dig it
- it has the grill
- there are way better choices out there
- expensive
usually I expect Hongers or rich kids to buy cars priced like this, but this isn't the case anymore.
fine.. there are two advantages that I didn't mention, and they are:
- SH-AWD
- vtec!!!!!! lolzzzz

exactly! you got my point!
my point was why buy the zdx when there is the crosstour with a 4wd option.
I mean 55k for the zdx is quite a lot, and at that price range ppl and rich kids would buy other cars.
There is nothing special/unique enough about the zdx that makes it worth 55k.
I think the zdx is going to be another Acura RL fail.

They may look similar but this isn't your typical Honda Acura rebadge scheme
from wikipedia
The Accord Crosstour is expected to be a competitor to the Toyota Venza, a crossover based upon the Accord's perennial competitor, the Toyota Camry. The Crosstour and Acura ZDX are said to be inspired by the BMW X6 and upcoming 5 Series Gran Turismo.[21] The Accord Crosstour will be sold exclusively in the US, Canada and Mexico. Despite common belief, the Accord Crosstour is not mechanically related to the Acura ZDX.

in theory the SH-AWD is a much smarter 4WD, a bit like what's on the X5 M
look at how JC is astonished to look at the torque distribution!!! hahahaha.

to some the X6 is ugly as sin, but it is selling well. The ZDX is the japanese verison of the X6....it will sell......
the looks of the ZDX is just different points in perspective, some might like it, some dun
since accord crosstour is here, i hope stream is gonna come soon :)

WTF ZDX more expensive than MDX?
now thats messed up

12-09-2009, 08:31 AM
For $55k+ I'd take a CPO'd X5 4.8iS or a used ML63 over this monstrocity..
ZDX is based on the MDX and not the Accord........get the facts straight. but I do agree the ZDX is over priced

the spec for the ZDX and MDX seems exactly the same
weird how Honda still using SOHC on their V6, and not DOHC

Lexus has a lot better interior, exterior, more sound proofing, better ride, better everything.
I don't know about ZDX but I'd guess it's a lot better than Accord Crosstour.

I love that little monitor between the speedo and the tach on my dad's MDX that shows how much torque is going to each wheel. Its pretty neat to see all the torque going to the outside rear wheel when cornering. haha.
Anyways, back onto the ZDX vs Accord Crosstour topic. But the main competitor is not the ZDX, its the Venza. The Crosstour is price very competitively with the Venza too. The top of the line model for both cars are roughly the same.

werd
same thing with AValon vs camery, bigger, better interior, and more quieter. I would expect the same with ES350 as well.
so is the jetta/passat and Audi A4/A6
VW Tourag? and Q5/Q7?

^^ true true
but in the case of vw vs audi
and toyota vs lexus
some ppl would pay more just for the name itself (audi, lexus) regardless of the quality difference
acura doesn't quite distinguish itself from honda in the same way other manufactures have with ther luxury vs regular brand.

yet, the ZDX seems to be overpriced.
I'm fine with the crosstour's price, but not okay with the ZDXs.

Neither of those are too appealing to me, but they will probably sell pretty well.
Though i can't wait for the TSX wagons to come next fall.

More low end torque could be the reason.

Honda was high when they designed these two cars in the first place so they might as well keep it consistent

I believe a chick who went to school in the states designed the ZDX. I suppose the design from the ZDX leaked down to the crosstour.
Now I'm wonder what the chick was sucking when she designed these cars.

yes
i'm not sure about now. but in the early to mid 2000's they used sohc's, correct me if i'm wrong. but most of their V8's and V12's are sohcs.
Cheaper, slightly better torque, some say it's more fuel efficient, but i think that it's actually not as good as a DOHC, and it's slightly smaller, which helps.

How about Toyota Venza VS Lexus RX350??
Same argument there... almost the same car.. but RX350 a lot more $!
Sit in the interior... and also look at the badge!!! Ppl pay money for premium badge.
Also Honda Civic vs Acura CSX?

reviving a dead thread, but OMG ZDX is ugly. Put a side skirt on it to make it lower looking like X6 or something.
Honda is high not only for designing the ZDX , but for fucking up the RL line up and making a cheap ass grill plate.
