Question for the guys - Do you wear make up?
Gnomes
12-14-2009, 05:03 AM
I'm not talking full blown emo make up, I'm talking about a little foundation and concealer to help with blemishes and imperfections with the skin.
It has been almost 2 years since this thread was created (http://www.revscene.net/forums/men-wearing-makeup-t511829.html?t=511829&highlight=makeup)
And some people 2 years ago says it's gay and such. Have any opinion changed from then?
And for those who does wear make up, how often do you put them on and where did you get them from? I personally dont think there is anything wrong with guys using female foundation, concealer, etc (just like nothing wrong using masks or moisturizers for her).

well from where I come from which is Korea, they have men's BB cream which is like liquid foundation. So its more like a lotion rather than a powder foundation but makes your skin look better

Holy shit, this BB cream is an all-in-1
What is BB cream for?
BB cream acts as:
1, A liquid foundation/primer/concealer that not only conceals blemish, scars, uneven skin tone, age spots, sun spots, dark circles
2. Also heals , moisturize, treat, controls oil, tighten pores, hydrates skin over prolong use
3. Has Sunblock UVA & UVB, wrinkle free, whitening abilities
4. Doesn't clog pores
5. Made of natural ingredients

yea apparently they do sell men's but probably not in vancouver. But you might wanna go places like sephora and ask them if you can still use women BB cream since they serve the same purpose but men and women skin are different

I personally don't care if my skin is acne filled or blemish filled. Do i try to eat cleaner so i don't break out? Of course. Would i EVER put on makeup? NO! Don't be so shallow and vain.

12-14-2009, 02:18 PM
I don't use it, but i dont think it's gay if its just used to cover blemishes, scars, uneven skin tones...etc. However if you're using full blown foundation on your whole face, eye liner and fake eye lashes, then Yes, that's pretty gay, but i doubt any straight man would use eye liner or fake eye lashes.

personally i don't mind it at all. jean paul has a men's make up line out and they sell it at holts. I use fondation and conceler when going to parties and i don't want to look horrible.

Nope, wouldn't use makeup because I take care of my skin BUT I think it would be ok to use coverup if you have really bad skin, scars, acne etc...
Edit: Never knew about this "BB cream", searched for some reviews and stuff and came across one for men from "Dr.Jart+" on eBay. It's $40 including free shipping. Has one on here actually used BB cream for men this?

Depends on how bad the blemish is. If it's a huge ass red pimple or something and you have to work, maybe need something to cover it up a bit.

i don't think BB cream is gay. Its pretty much like lotion.
If you think its gay, its same thing as saying that a guy is gay for using men's toner, face wash and lotion. I would think a guy with eye liner is gay unless they're a model getting a photoshoot or a celebrity.

Pretty big changed for that girl within 4 weeks
I can take men's makeup up to certain extend. A foundation or concealer could do wonder if you were to attend a upper scale meeting/event.
I remember going to one of the baller party that my dad's partner held back in San Fran. It was filled with true ballers... and the partner's wife insisted on putting some concealer on me since I had some acne breakout around that time.
If the environment requires, I see some sort of makeups mandatory.

Did you guys ship to US or Canada? Both are free shipping right?
Confused with the wording of the shipping description
Set to Canada, "Shipping and handling
Free shipping for orders over $100.00 when you buy bestbuykorea's other eligible items.
Save up to $1.50 on shipping when you buy additional eligible items from bestbuykorea."
So would i need $100 + to get free shipping then?
Edit: looked into this Gold Caviar version, they say it's not good for oil control, therefore sensitive skin types are susceptible to breakouts from this application.
I did find the BRTC BB cream recovery balm that helps reduce blemishes/imperfections, with better oil control and therefore better for sensitive skin types. However no SPF protection from what I read, but it's winter now anyways

please do let me know how it goes, I have some fairly sensitive skin as well that turns red once it becomes irritated.
Currently using spectro HydraGel moisturizer, non-irritating, non-comedogenic and it works great but it doesn't reduce blemishes to my knowledge. Does a great job moisturizing while keeping my skin oil-free though.

I'm using BRTC Recover Balm right now, the tone is a bit lighter than my skin tone so I have to blend with a moisturizer, will let you know if my skin gets better. Meanwhile, I'll look into that Skin79 stuff.
And SkinnyPupp, that's precisely why we're checking out said products - to see if the claims to better skin are true. Think of it as science :P As for me, I like my brighter, less spotty skin no matter what anyone says about wearing foundation, cause nobody can tell in the first place ;)

It is pretty gay, I admit... But let me put it this way.
If you care that much about what everyone says about you, then don't wear makeup. It will make people think you're gay. Straight up. All the people I've told will say that.
But if you're wearing very nude foundation and moisturizer, nobody can tell. That's the point of BB Cream. It's supposed to even out your skin tone and make it look clearer and healthier, while looking like you're wearing nothing at all. Nobody I know has noticed that I wear anything - I have to tell them. And before telling people, I've had them compliment my skin. And it only takes one second to put on alongside moisturizer.
So my point is, if you're wearing makeup and it shows, people will think you're gay. But if it doesn't show, then nobody will know and you'll have nicer skin without people thinking youre gay. It's like cheating :)

K, so far after using BRTC Perfect Recovery Balm for a few weeks, I actually had a breakout recently... not sure if it was from Christmas: stress, the indulging in unhealthy foods, staying up late and out all day and night, etc... or from using the product, but the first week or two of using it almost daily, I had no bad reactions... so it's rather inconclusive, with regards to clogging pores and harming your skin. I'm actually not using it at the moment to give my skin some time to recover so I could try again.
It definitely smoothes out your skin and makes it brighter when worn and really helps hide dark circles without looking like you're wearing anything at all. However, I haven't seen the long-term effects yet(whitening, healthier skin, etc). But that's only after roughly two weeks of use.
Other notes... It's a little hard to blend, so warm your hands before using, or blend with a bit of light moisturizer. You only need a tiny bead of it to cover your face. Use as little as possible, or else it'll be visible to others that you're wearing foundation :P Also, my girlfriend began to notice my more even skin tone and actually likes me wearing it... dunno if that's a plus or not.
TL: DR
-good coverage
-a little hard to blend
-no long-term effects after two weeks daily usage
-had a breakout at week two (Christmas time), results inconclusive

It did take a long time but the delay was because of the holidays. A few other things I ordered before the xmas holidays have been arriving this week as well.
Just a follow up on the product, it really does do a great job of covering up and it also made my skin look brighter and smoother, if that makes sense. I would say this product is well worth the cheap price. The only thing I was worried about was breaking out because I have really sensitive skin but so far my skin hasn’t irritated so that’s a huge plus for people with sensitive skin. Thanks to the OP and all the people who mentioned this product.

Got my BRTC Gold Caviar BB cream yesterday. Putting on the BB cream and washing it off every day seems like a lot of work. Could easily use that time to do a better job cleansing my face.
As for effects - I do notice it being able to cover up uneven skin tones and such but not as well as I hoped. Maybe it's because I have severe acne scars on my face. I might post some before + after pics later in the week.
BB cream = moisturizer with the side effects of concealing, foundation, anti-wrinkling, sun block, whitening.

You mean you had to go out and get a special type of facial cleanser or just required more effort to get it off your skin?
I'm assuming you don't mean frequency of washing your face, because you should be washing your face twice a day regardless of bb cream or not.

Does it blend in well, colour tone wise? A lot of bb creams look quite light in colour..
Also, wouldn't a cleanser remove the bb cream? It's not eyeliner or anything so I wouldn't think makeup remover is needed.

I used the BB cream on a tiny spot on my face and it did blend in but yes, if you're darker it will make your skin look ligher.
A bit off topic but people who do have issues with acne should look into other products. I've mentioned this before in other threads but I swear by the products at acne.org. There the best products I've ever used and people who don't have acne can use the products as well because it works wonders. Kielhs is also good, the eye cream and facial face wash are awesome.

Yes, pretty much but it also depends on how much of this stuff you cake on to your face. I don't think you need make up remover if you use a very small amount on say a tiny scar or mark.
