STI vs Evo: Which is the better car?
RabidRat

Inspired by the sti/snow thread, an original Revscene debate.
Which is the better car: Evo or STI, and why?
Dig deep! Let's see some rally videos and discussion of heritage, discussion of strength of internals, and pictures of prime examples!

Let me predict what will happen, RS'ers will have a heated debate as to which is better, this thread will have 9 pages, a troll will come in and this will end up in Fight Club.
Much like the F430, C63 photoshoot thread.

yes a bit more specific on year would make different arguments
but the general consensus is:
engine: EVO > STI
drivetrain: EVO > STI
Exterior: STI > EVO
Interior: STI > EVO
so in a nut shell, mechanically EVO is better, ergonomics wise, STI is better
deep inside me is a EVO fan

I wonder which one has higher sales-figures in 2009?

^probably the sti because its cheaper by 10k.
One of the many reasons why I like subaru's is the boxer rumble and it seems to catch more attention than all of the cars in its class.
Apparently subaru's are more reliable than mitsu's, but mitsu's respond better to mods.

I love subaru's boxer engine and the distinct rumble, but the steering feels like i'm driving a boat.
But in the end,
I still want an EVO 5,6,7,8, or 9 lol.

EVO 9 > STI 07 > EVO X > STI 2010
This is VERY close to what I have in mind too.
EVO 9 > STI 04 > EVO X > STI 2010

Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 6 Tommi Makinen Edition (AKA 6.5) > All
Drove one of these in Seattle (and kicking myself for not buying it), and it was literally the best AWD turbo monster I've ever driven - even compared to most modern sports cars (GTR, Porsche, etc).
The argument of which car is better also depends on the generation, but for the most part I find that Evolutions have a slight edge over the Impreza's.

lan evo x is much better
I would also say the evo x slightly edges the Sti's competition.
Cornering Evo > Sti
Int/Ext Evo > Sti
Power (torque) Sti > Evo
Brakes Evo > Sti
Price Sti > Evo
Overall. Evo X wins.

it is highly dependent on the generation and your priorities...both manufacturer try to differentiate a little in order not to compete too head on...i guess that is why sti went with hatch while evo stayed with sedan.
I failed you, you should have talked to me personally LOL

one of the reasons why the evo > sti in handling is the ability to shift power side to side, check out this beefy ayc rear diff from an evo

Not a fan of the transmission in the EVO X MR, its a little annoying in the city when you need to just crawl, Like the STi's 6 speed better. Also a fan of the 5 door shape, front end could afford to be a bit more aggressive though, but with some minor suspension upgrades the STi would probably handle as well as the EVO, it's also a much lighter car which is always good stuff :D
I prefer the Evo's styling though inside and out.
For everyday use STi would be my pick, its also a cheaper car.
GSR evo for the track and second car

the problem with EVO for me is that.....let's not talk about the EVOX, but every gen EVO before that had a subpar interior compared to the STi equivalent.
Especially Evo456 is super econo-interior....

Im a evo fan but I have to say the boxter engine in a STI is better engine overall (stock for stock) and I cant say much on a STI interior as I've seen it only once along time ago, but exterior? I've always perfered the Evo body style (evo 7-9).

Personally, I love the sound of the boxer engine and I love the practicality of the new hatchback STI! If Subaru offered 0% financing... I probably wouldn't be driving a Mitsu right now :lol

stock for stock the subaru EJ2X7 engines MAY seem better, but once u start throwing mods into it, the evo's 4G63 is far more superior than the EJ2X7.

You can't really compare them directly now, as the new STi is quite a bit cheaper in price than Evo nowadays.
in the west i'd buy EVO
in the east i'd buy STI

I know that, EVO is easy and reliable modded power (til a certain point). But as i said stock for stock :P. Overall EVO is better I believe.
Oh also, I was reading a while back that the Subies have beaten the Evo around the tusukuba track in japan every generation except for the evo 8 generation. But the subie beat it by very little (like .02 or less)

yup...too bad USDM STi is different fro JDM ones...JDM STI's turbo spools faster and has faster steering ratio (steering bracket?), better tires and amd better seats (Recaro), so in comparsion the USDM version is teh suck. JDM evo is better then USDM evo, but not the same margin as jdm sti vs usdm sti. The jdm evo has a better turbo...spools faster, and I think that is it.

tires r the same i believe, its the bridgestone RE070 for both JDM and USDM, and they dont suck at all. i might be wrong, but i believe the normal jdm sti has the same steering rack as USDM sti, its the special version stis that get a faster steering rack, and lastly the faster spooling turbo is because of twinscroll headers used, but instead, USDM gets the unequal length header which gives that distinctive boxer rumble.

put ken block in an EVO and see what happens ;)
for example, what did rys millen break records in up pikes peak this year? Think about that before posting pro videos. Cuz you all hate to admit it.
anyways, My votes with the EVO, too bad they're soo pricey up here.

No.
The standard versions are the same ones we get here. Difference being we get the 2.5, and they get the 2.0 for the STi. They also get the Spec C which has all the awesome goodies that we don't get here.
