: Laptop overheating..

So I have the Dell XPS M1330, this model has a history of video card and over heating issues. It's been sent back to Dell once for repair, but now it just over-heats all the time. I find that if I ever use it on my lap, or even on a table, it gets to hot. Mainly happens when gaming, or watching a movie, but does happen on the odd occasion when I'm just browsing the net w/music playing.

I've been researching this for awhile now but have yet to come up with a proper solution. Would it be possible to buy an after market fan that does a better job of keeping the GPU cooled? Or does anyone else have any other suggestions?

I use this laptop for travel mainly, so buying a cooling "stand" is not an option.

Sadly, send it back to dell or go buy a new laptop :S

Or attempt to re-apply thermal paste to the pieces with a heatsink attached.

And also check for dust inside the case.

Tell Dell you nearly burned yourself with the laptop. I'm sure they'll fix it right away.

Ya, that's to big....When I say travel I mean Backpacking, so my space is very very very limited. I was looking for an immediate fix I guess due to the fact that I fly out of Vancouver on the 18th of Jan.

I may check the thermal paste, and give it a cleaning.

Extremely unlikely. This is not a generic PC case where you can choose whatever heatsink and fan combination you want. Laptops are designed so that they have no wasted space, which means that many parts inside are proprietary and even specific to that laptop model.
