: reasonable price for HiD

So I'm thinking of getting HiD lights for my Mazda 3.

I was gonna get them from one of the BCMazda3 sponsors which quoted me for $100 for the kit. I asked around some friends and they quoted me that they spent between $140 - $250.

What's really considered reasonable for HiD lights? Am I gonna end up burning more money in the long run with the cheaper lights?

Ugh, are you going to retrofit your headlights?

If you and/or your friends aren't retrofitting your headlights, you're going to cause excessive glare to fly off your reflectors and blind the hell out of everyone. This is going to cause accidents and is a ticketable offence.

So if you are going to go HID, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get it done right by retrofitting your headlights first.

Do yourself a BIG favour....Don't buy the cheapest ones out there. (personal experience) There is an absolute S**TLOAD of crappy HID kits around (usually the ones around $100-$150) Crappy ballasts, crappy wiring...= crappy. If you are looking for an inexpensive brand that is reasonable in price ($220-$240 low-beam $380 Hi/Low), try hidoutlet.ca Good luck!

The mazda3 has oem projectors, i've seen some mazda 3's with aftermarket HID, they look pretty good, not much glare, just make sure to aim it down if its too bright

is it really an offence if you dun retrofit your hid??? There's like shit loads of pick-up trucks with bright ass hid and with their height, it directly shines into other ppl's car. And if that's not enough, they have to stop 6" away from your bumper at a stop light and that's just plain annoying

isn't there something against aftermarket hid that bright to be install in a pickup truck or any other suv??

I got mine from HID outlet for 80 bucks, but soon realized that HID in a reflector housing actual gave me less light than my stock bulbs and just blinded the fuck out of everyone.
I researched doing a retrofit and contacted HID Illusionz but for now I don't wanna spend the money on a retrofit. So I put in new wiring to handle 100 watt bulbs and I'm happy with it.
just my 2 cents don't spend money on HID's unless you do a retrofit,
-its one more illegal mod to get pulled over for
-I noticed my lights acted more like "flood" lights so on a dark road I could out drive them
-you blind the fuck out of everyone.
so why pay money for less light?

this is one of the reason I want to be with the police. Help them but getting all people with hid kits. I'm sure that everyone has been blinded by hid kit more then once. It's annoying and has to be stopped.

How to shoot high beam when they are behind you?

What you need to do is install HID's in reverse housing and just flip a switch. :haha:

In fact, it's illegal in BC to run ANY HIDs that aren't direct from the manufacturer, SPECIFICALLY for your model of car. In other words, the only way you can legally add them to your car, is if they're available as a FACTORY OPTION for your car; then you can legally install THOSE SPECIFIC factory fixtures.

Now I just sit back and wait for someone to give me shit again for posting about this in here. Well guess what? Some people DON'T know that it's illegal, as evidenced by this question. Good on hJe6 for wanting to expand his knowledge.

Reasonable price for HIDs?
HID kit: $100-$150
Violation ticket for improper lighting: $167
Towing car home: $100-$200
Inspection: $100-$150
Reinspection after other illegal mods fail: $100-$150
Whining about it on RS only to get "I told you so": PRICELESS

Well, he's right.

If you're going HID, you need projector headlights because they have the proper cut off. You cannot run reflectors, they will just blind everyone, it's illegal, and you'll actually have less useable light.

So, look for a oem retrofit projector headlight kit, and if it doesn't exist, then you're s.o.l.

You can always get a higher temp halogen bulb, like 6000k to get that 'blue' HID effect if that's the look you're going for.

You know, I wasn't even going to bother, but hJe6 asked... did I answer his question improperly? Did I tell him something that wasn't true? Is there something wrong with answering other members' questions just because the answers don't agree with your self-centered view of the universe?

Well, he's right.

And projector retrofits are illegal as well.

IF YOU'RE CONCERNED ABOUT BEING LEGAL, then the only option is to install the complete OEM system (not just the housing) from the manufacturer, specifically for your car.

Where did I say that?

Someone says they want to make an illegal mod to their car... since when is it a bad thing to warn them that it IS illegal and likely to cost them a ton of money?

If someone came in here and said they wanted to drive their car off a bridge, would you object because people said it would be a bad idea?

If you want to go ahead and do it after being warned, go right fucking ahead. But then don't come back whining about it when you get owned by the popo.

Yeah, that's why I said get an oem one, do you know what oem means?

You're too much of a sucker for trolls there soundy.

Case in point, if going HID, get projectors.

The chances of you getting caught for a proper HID set up is next to nothing.

Yes, I do, thank you.

That still doesn't make it legal. If you DO get caught, the consequences are the same.

If the ability to piss off other drivers is important enough to you to chance all that money, then by all means, more power to you.
