And we can dyno auto and diesel.

I told a few of my friends about it and they wanted to know if you can dyno full size diesels.
the first trucks a 95 ram 2500cummins 12 valve,
and my other buddy has a 06 ram 2500 with a 5.9 cummin's but he has tried to get it dyno'ed before and they couldn't find the tach wire or something.

just a question out of curiosity, but how long estimately, does it take to setup and prepare one vehicle for a dyno run? ie... wait times for each car etc..
RacingGreed
01-12-2010, 08:13 AM
It usually takes about 10-15 min to set up a car and do 3 pulls. Usually, it takes little longer with extremely lowered cars. On the last dyno day, we did 27 cars (9:30 to 4). Waiting time is depends on the flow, but last time, it was less than an hour.

That's a pretty number of cars within that timeframe. IIRC, the last last last RS dyno day @ Kinetic, we got 25 or 27 cars in until 3:30pm but everybody only got 2 runs.

How does the 1/4 mile simulation work?
To do 1/4 runs, you need to know the exact weight of your vehicle and hp @ 50 kmh.
It's pretty accurate, but you can not really launch the car, cause it gets little scatch when you launch your car hard on the dyno.

For a FWD car, it really should be 15% but because transmissions are so much more efficient than they used to be, I'd say anywhere between 10-12% is a good number. Don't be upset - all it is is just a number. Different dynos provide different output values and this is normal. If you plan on making any performance modifications later on, it is best to go back to Racing Greed so that way you can compare your baseline to your next dyno run in order to be able to get a fair comparison before & after.
Iceman-19
01-23-2010, 02:14 PM
They are giving a higher correction factor because it is a Mustang Dyno, and they read lower then other dynos. I made 238rwhp/487rwtq. Corrected from Shawn it was 340hp and 700lbsft at the crank.

It might actually be more at the crank then that. I was only factoring in 20% drivetrain loss and the fact that our dyno reads around 10% lower then actual. Don't those big diesels have like 25%loss or more through the drivetrain? At 25% drivetrain loss your truck is making 366hp and 749tq at the crank.
Iceman-19

To data log everything properly on the dyno (especially knock), we have to put some load on the dyno when doing pulls. But, since it was a dyno day for power numbers, we had no load on the dyno at all. However, on our dyno, load or no load doesn't change the power reading.

STI pulls were done in 4th gear, 100% sure about that cuz I was driving it on the dyno. Except one or two cars which had hard time to finish the pull in 4th gear, every pull was done in 4th gear.
That R32 was highly tuned racing car, stock R32 will do about 200 at the wheel.

Hrm...I'll have to come back some other time to re-dyno with a load! :-P My Evo pulled huge amounts of timing! I had a massive (very scary) number of knock sums...and I noticed that I was in totally different load cells than what I normally log on the road! On the road, nothing, 0 knock sums, no timing pulled. I logged right after that on the way home cause the knock counts were so scary!
Anyways, thanks for having the dyno day!

thats what I thought, my friend has a c63 and he dyno'd a lot higher with 5th gear
We dyno'd the c63 in 5th gear. On our dyno, the numbers don't change that much when dynoing in different gears. We decide what gear to use on each car by how long it takes to finish the pull without using any electric feedback. So basically we use the inertia from the rollers alone for the load and then choose a gear that will give a nice steady pull time. Higher gears on powerfull cars and lower gears for milder cars. Some cars have a difficult time to spin the rollers when using 1:1 transmission ratio gear. The car take way to long to complete the pull.

oh, right thanks. forgot about it being on a mustang dyno..

if you read the whole thread, you'll know that the RG mustang dyno reads lower than most dyno out there.
just like the amg c63 all run about 360 whp with tune and bolt on. It should be estimated at 520 hp at the crank and stock is 450 hp at crank.

Car wasn't running properly on the dyno for some reason. Me and tuner think it was just too much load in 4th gear (07+ sti has longer gears and usually all tuned in 3rd) but it should have handled it....
So yeah it ended up spiking to 34psi at 4000rpm when it should peak at 28psi. Then in turn, ecu pulled boost and timing like crazy (16psi) so it wouldn't blow up and then climbed again. By the time it went back up I was already past where I usually make peak power ~6000rpm.
But non the less the RG dyno does read super low. I was expecting like 440-450 with the car running properly.
Did some testing on the street after and all was fine so maybe I'll just head down to where the car was tuned and do a 4th gear pull on that dyno.

Your car has great potential, even better than our race STI, setup wise.
It should be able to break our Subaru Dyno Record (520whp)with no problem with a proper tune if everything is working right.
We'll be looking forward to seeing that.
PS, Should apply some load on the dyno when you tune, on the other dyno video of your car, the pulls seem too short. Tune will be much better if you use dyno that can vary the load such as Dyno Dynamics, Mustang dyno or tune it in a higher gear.

About 200whp as well, if I remember right. It's stock, so that's about right for the rated crank hp and the AWD loss.
