| Help with settings for a 12" Type R
I bought a box from Soundsgood a few weeks back for a 12" Alpine Type R. I recently bought an amp for it and after exhausting all my knowledge into setting the gains and the filters, i'm still having problems with the sub producing higher bass notes. I'm powering the sub with a Kenwood KAC 8104d. Specs are below
•mono subwoofer amplifier
•500 watts x 1 at 2 ohms
•300 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms
•CEA-2006 compliant
•variable low-pass filter (50-200 Hz at 24 dB per octave)
•bass boost (0-18 dB at 40 Hz )
•subsonic filter (15/25 Hz, 18 dB/octave )
•Class D design
•speaker-level inputs with signal sensing turn-on
•preamp-level inputs and outputs
Anyways, I set my subsonic filter at 25hz and my low pass filter at 150hz. Bassboost and gain is somewhere above the middle setting. Deep bass notes are fine, they come through good but higher bass notes are non existent. It just cuts and seems like my filter isn't letting them pass. I only hear it from my mids up front. The sub is wired to 4ohms.
Am I missing something?

How high of bass notes? Turn off the bass boost as this will cause an exaggerated bass hump. Turn off any EQ's or loudness settings on the amp and deck when setting the gain.

if you're running rcas to an aftermarket deck, does the deck have true sub out non-fading?
Do you have LPF set too low on the deck?
On your amp you shouldn't need it up at 150hz
80-90hz max
double check your deck if you're using rca's to make sure your lpf isn't on already and tuned super high, alternatively to test you can swap your rca's at the deck from the sub channel to rear channel and see if you get those higher notes as rear output should be full range as long as you have your hpf turned OFF

My desk has sub preamp outputs (5v) and as far as I can tell, no sub filter setting in it's menu. However, it has sub volume control and on high or low volumes, the higher bass notes still dont' come thru like the low ones do. When I say high base notes, the notes are part of the bass line.
I've been listening to this song since its got quite a bass line and at 0:34, the bass line goes up and the sub stops producing the sounds as well as it does with the rest of the notes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-iM6EVKcJA
For reference, this is my deck. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_105KDS1...ures_and_specs
I have the DPS feature on, but on or off, the bass output from the deck is the same, according to the JVC rep I spoke with.

My system had trouble with midbass at around 100hz as well, I basically had to bump it up +5 on the EQ since my particular cabin caused a dip at that frequency.
If you haven't tried it already, try turning off the bass boost and increasing the gain at the amp. It'll level out the bass and reduce the hump that may be causing the dip in midbass. Make sure there's no sound-processing going on at the deck, set the EQ to flat.
Bass boost only boosts a certain frequency, so if you're setting the gain with the boost on, you are only setting the gain to the peak of the boost, while the levels on the rest of the bass frequency range is not high enough.
Edit: Ohyeah, play with the phase settings, maybe your phase is off.

The box is tuned to about 42 hz which is pretty normal. Like Keith said, bring 'er in and we'll take a look at it!
