Is the medical plan at BCIT mandatory for all students? I'm suppose to get 80% coverage on prescription drugs but when I filed 2 claims recently, both claims got rejected because it "wasn't" covered in my plan. So exactly wtf is covered in this god damn plan and why am I paying $100/semester for this useless plan?

PS: It took them 2 fucking months to process the claims.

did you read the policy wordings to see why it wasn't covered? was there an explanation provided?

there are probably certain types of medication that isn't covered. was it a sudden type of illness/sickness or was it medication that you would take on a routine basis?

It's only mandatory if you have no other health plan. For example, when I was going to BCIT I had a health plan through my part-time job. I just had to submit proof of the work plan to BCIT, and I got reimbursed the BCIT medical plan fees.

No explanation was provided and I can't find the list of drugs covered on their website. The medication I claimed is not used on a routine basis.

I had this situation too, however I'm using the SFU program but the principles should be the same ( also covers 80% of the cost of prescriptions )

Got a prescription slip from my doctor, brought it to pharmacy, medication turns out to be not covered and I had to pay the full price.

Asked about it, turns out that this medication just needs to be prepared by the pharmacists, but is actually an over the counter medication, therefore not a prescription and not covered.
