Well, after getting complained from my dad not having a good suit to go with him to meet his friends (I have a off-the-rack Boss suit that I bought for $800, but it's not fitting so well lately after putting up some weight), I have decided to go ahead with my long time plan of having a made to measure suit.

I have budget up to 3K and want to look professional and serious. I checked HR and really liked Tom Ford suits, but they are 6K and up for MTM.

Can anyone recommend a place or tailor to buy the best MTM suit around 3K?

Plz don't come up with some Saville Row shop... they are at least 8K and I am not willing to fly just for suit. :D

bro, why pay so much for the name?

i just ordered mine about 2 weeks ago, MTM.

spent $400. I will let you know how it fits but if you want something with a big name brand, then indochino will not be suitable for you.

I'm not really concerned on brand. If there's a good tailor, I'd get it from him too.

But the thing is with the fabrics and sewing. A top grade material sheet enough for a suit can easily cost 2K. And usually cheap suit might offer good design, but the material will scream just that... cheap.

Anything local anyone?

If you want a local shop that does it old-school (i.e. no cutting corners), I would suggest Modernize Tailors on Pender and Caroll. Bill and Jack Wong are in their 80s now and a little 'slow' (4-6 weeks), but if you're clear on what you want, you'll come out with a decent product. It's a good idea to at least bring a jacket that fits you well so they have a good base to work from.

for mtm suits, there are many local guys in town that can do it. I use andy yuen (www.andyyuen.com) but have found suits to be cheaper when you do the asia thing.

acutally this is a pretty good topic,

anyone has anymore suggestions? How are the prices at andy?
my suits are MTM in asia as i do frequent quite regularly, but anymore locals? I don't mind supporting locals if cut/fitting/mats are good.

Yeah, some pricing info will be appreciated.

I called around, and seems 3~4K seems standard if you want good material.... :(

You guys actually expect his dad and his friends to accept that? Don't be absurd!

Haha... not that my dad and his frds care about brand so much... just my suit is not fitting too well lately and the material is kinda embarrassing sometimes... :D

And all I really care is that they look QUALITY. I mean, those people (my dad's investors more than friends) get their suit MTM from tailors. But when you have a whole bunch of ppl wearing high-end material suits around your cheapo off-the-rack suit, it's just very noticeable.

MTM suits right now at Harry Rosen. I think they're at 900 and up? Anyone confirm the quality of those suits? You can't just pick by brand can you? like select Dolce to make your suit?
