without details since op decided to take it off, i'll just assume, this deal is only available to NEW shaw customers only IF u switch from telus or bell and show them a monthly bill as proof.

where did u hear this from? i've been with shaw since rogers days (so 8+ years of cable internet), and the only downtimes that i get r either from power outages, or maintenance/hardware upgrade in which they provide adequate notice to u, and maybe the once a year disconnect (but usually back within 10-30mins and usually occurs late late at night, arnd 3am)

and if you require wireless you have to pay more correct? i'm with telus right now, and we're moving. and i was looking to shaw cable...cause we need a change. so if it's cheaper we can just get the whole bundle

^ If you need wireless internet you dont have to pay more to Shaw. You just need to buy a wireless router, if you dont already have one (and wireless cards for desktops without them). It's not like Telus with the build in modem and router all in one.
slammer111
01-19-2010, 08:47 PM
^ Meh, same price as Telus, except you get regular internet (not lite) instead of hi-speed/extreme.
Telus you also get a PVR decoder with a 3yr contract. Not sure if Shaw has any equivalent.

you do not need to be a new shaw customer to get this deal. I am a Shaw internet/cable customer, but I told them that I am shopping around for deals and basically ask them what they can do to keep me. Then they offered me this deal...
The promotion gives you:
Shaw HD plus: Ch2-58, basic HD channels and HD Plus
Extreme internet
Shaw digital phone with free North America calling
Free PVR rental for 2 years
I called back TELUS to see if they can match this deal, they eventually pass me to L&R, but they cant even come close to what shaw is offering....I was a bit disappointed with TELUS, ALL the CSRs were pretty awful and they don't seem interested to match anything from shaw or keep me as a customer

ok i know what is going on now, this is a retentions deal,
u have to call in and pretend to cancel, so they will give u this deal to "try" and keep u as their customer. u really really need to know how to out talk them.
also, to those who think loyalty counts, no it doesnt work for shaw, no matter how long u've been with them, they wont give a fuck, u have to out smart them to get them to give u anything for free or deals, if u cant out talk them they wont give u anything.
i'd been with them since rogers day, so arnd 15+ years and they didnt offer me any deals when ever i talk to them.

we called in today, signed up for the tv HD, phone, extreme internet i believe..(my mom was dealing with it...so she didn't ask for details and/or didn't give me any details)
anyhow. the guy said, HD only has 13 channels. i was wondering if you guys know whether or not it comes with the digital channels as well?
i think once they come and install on saturday, i'll have to try and figure things out...and if they're not exactly what i want then i'll probably try adding stuff onto the tv plan. cause i want some espn!!!
BUT they did allow us to keep our phone number right now, except...it'll take 3-4 weeks to port!

This isn't $85 but I just called the retention dept. for the first time ever and I was pleasantly surprised. My current bill is $136.80 a month for digital, HD sports package, Extreme Internet, Phone with caller ID and all that crap. I told him what telus was offering and he looked up my account. He's like ya you've been with us a long time, you've never been offered a promo, you pay your bill on time so I can offer you exactly what you have except change the sports HD package to all the HD channels and I'll do it for $90.90 a month for one year.
Savings of about $50 a month after tax, be polite and you shall receive. Don't care about PVR offers or anything like that because I already have them although he did offer me a free digital HD box (non PVR) for 3 years but I had no need for it.
Edit: I never threatened to leave or anything either I just told them that Telus was offering me a really good rate right now for one year and was wondering if there was anything they could do to get my bill close to it?

No it doesn't. It stays at the same price. Only the extra options such as the Extreme High Speed and Unlimited Long Distance within North America calling goes back to its basic service.

Has anyone successfully switched to Shaw from Telus for the Shaw Digital Phone service?
How does the transition work? Do I need to cancel my home phone service with Telus first (to prevent being charged extra)?
I am planning to keep my existing telephone no.
MaximalLazy

I think Shaw will deal with Telus, and therefore your will not be charged extra since you will receive your Shaw services after your Telus bill cycle ends. :S

Just got this today thanks to the Corzo.
$85.95 for 12 months with the first month free. I was offered 2 free HD PVR boxes (rentals) as well but I'm only taking 1 since I already bought one of the new boxes and only have 2 TVs. The free boxes are the 160GB version.
Ultimately over the 12 month period I only save like ~$20 total but I get a free extra HD PVR box and unlimited phone service that I wouldn't have otherwise signed up for.
Also I think the OP forgot to mention that you get some international calling minutes as well (she first said 1000 then said 250 so I dunno).

First of all, I want to thanks corzo_cone for this thread.
I just called Shaw today. At first, I told the lady from CSR that Telus has TV/Internet/Phone bundle and will you guys price match them. She told me that Telus force you to sign contract and will increase the price after 3 years. (Shaw increased the price 2-3 times a year without the contract :( ). And she told me she can transfer me to another department and I could talk to them.
So I talked to another guy about it, he put me on hold for few min and give me this offer
Shaw Digital Phone Basic:
- Local phone service
- Caller display
Shaw internet:
- High speed Internet
Shaw digital and hd tv:
- Classic & HD Plus
- 1 HD PVR
- Chinese Channel +$7
$84.95 + $7 + Tax = $99.95 per month
I told him I need few days to think about it. What do you guys think?? Should I call again and ask for Xtreme Internet or 1 more HD PVR?

what is a retention deal?
I already have shaw high speed internet and basic digital cable. I called shaw today and they offer to transfer my home phone service from telus and give me a triple play bundle:
1) high speed extreme interent 1 yr
2) class cable channel 2-58 with free digital tuner ( non-HD) 1yr
3) home phone with caller ID 1yr
All for 79.99$
Should I take this deal? He doesnt want to give me HD plus or HD box for free rental, which Corzo the op has mention above.
Am I unlucky? and should I take this plan? (it is not a contract)

A retentions offer is when you threaten to leave and they offer a promo to keep you on.
