: Porsche Bodykit?

Obsideon
01-25-2010, 06:11 AM
Just sending out a feeler thread to see if anyone has any suggestions or ideas for a 996 full bodykit. I haven't looked up anything but what do you guys think? Any particular brand or model that stands out to you guys?
Also what shop locally can supply them and/or which is the best place to get it in terms of quality/service/value?
If pics can be provided that would be even better :D

Gemballa / Techart / Ruf are the major players with the best quality, but also some of the most expensive.

I would seriously considering upgrading to a 997 before spending $5-$10k on a bodykit on a 996 that's worth maybe $30k.

If you really want a body kit, I would consider the factory porsche aerokit gt3 bumpers and rockers..

wtf are those?

just stick with factory gt3, gt2 or turbo stuff.

im running the GT3 factory aerokit, with GT3RS wing
only kit i would go for is prob the factory GT2 front bumper (which im doing later this year ;)) or techart gt2 bumper

if i remember correctly, yours is a C2 too right? unless you buy a narrow-body turbo/gt2 rear bumper, theres not much option

im not too fond of the 996 -> 997 conversion, and i love the look of the 996 personally,
i have a set of replica gt2 sideskirt and rear bumper if ur interested ;)

^ if im not wrong, that would just be a deformed(narrowed) aftermarket fiberglass replica bumper because GT2 has wide front/rear fender and it won't be a bolt on thing for C2.

actually, the gt2/turbo/c4s,also known as the widebody of the 996, has the same front, so a turbo/gt2 bumper will fit on all 996 but the rears are different because gt2/turbo/c4s are wider (i think by 1inch or so?) than the normal c2,c4 narrowbody

ok my bad,

964 and 993 had wide front fender for turbo models so i kinda assume the same for 996

sell it and buy a 2003-04 GT3. 2000 is a bit old for dropping too much money into. IMO

you'll love the GT3.

OP's 996 is a 2000 so pre facelift? with diff headlights? are you looking to replace them as well?

I have seen the GT2 front bumper for a pre facelift one though in hk

but yeah your options might be more limited because of the fact that your car is a 2000 model, you'll be looking at big bucks putting in so many pieces and getting them painted and installed right.

Go to SR if you want to get screwed over big time.
Getting ripped off with some used parts and not saying those are used or damaged.
And yes I got proof.
Stay away from SR.
They might have their baller status just because they are good on promoting themselve. Nothing more.

Not at all. In fact, you can order any of the kits online (cheaper) and have a bodyshop do the install.

I wonder ... wouldn't it be crazy expensive to ship such big pieces such as a kit over here?

Rich Sandor
01-29-2010, 09:54 AM
I had my splitter(s) shipped up from California, they were $50 each.. I had 4 wheels and tires shipped from Ohio, they were $50 each as well. I can't see shipping for a full bumper being more than $200. For a pair of bumpers and rockers, probably $500 shipping.

But guess what, you're gonna pay that if you buy the kit from Sr or anyone else, they just build it into the price. Nobody in Vancouver stocks these bodykits unless they are actually produced here.

Must be my age, but regardless of the quality of body kits for Porsches, they don't seem to enhance the shape of the car....porsche 996 look best, lowered with a the factory GT3 aero kit...anything else is a downgrade... even the techart kit.
