you'll probably have to pre-order from a store. the cost of these are much higher than duck, that's why it's not commonly sold here.

@ Mugen, i dont think those are the same "goose" people from China/HK eat.
i think they banned goose in Canada, but I remember seeing some in Chinatown's bbq places once in a while near Chinese new years tho... think it was like 20bucks and they were HUGE
on the topic of food, you know those Canadian geese that crap everywhere? i recall the government wanting to round them up (since there is a over population of them) and cooking them for the homeless. =T

Yes, there are farms in the lower mainland that raises them. However the problem is they are usually expensive and most people won't go for it, if it is 2x the price of a duck.
Google for Embden geese.

Oh in case anyone is expecting the same breed of geese as in China.. no Embden geese are a totally different breed (it doesn't have the enlarged basal area). The Chinese ones are closer to Swans.
The ones we get are typically the ones you see in "duck duck goose goose" type children illustrations.

I think duck actually taste better than goose. Nevertheless, I'll always have a good goose drumstick whenever I head back to hk
ive seen goose go on sale in safeway around christmas time but never around any other time.. the same one from the link that godwin posted

It is an age thing.. because these days chicken is harvested at 3 weeks.. typically the older the animal the more taste there is.. goose can live up to 30 years.
Another thing you might want to ask your chinese BBQ place is ask if they will do the bird for you if you bring them the goose. I think the issue is with supply (you probably can't get goose via their supplier).. I know there are a few places in Richmond that do turkey for their customers in their roaster.
Oh another reason why BBQ in HK/China is different? They use charcoal vs propane. Honestly Charcoal tastes better.
