So i get on the 25(UBC) infront of BCIT.
This bus leaves from zone 1 but BCIT is inside zone 2
but when i insert fare to validate, it stamps ZONE 1!
but my final destination is zone 3 so, if i get on a bus from zone 3, it says i need to upgrade fare. I had to explain to two bus driver of this situation.

do you guys think it was this one time, or will this happen everytime... for other buses too. would writing a letter to translink do anything.
IT will be a PIA to explain everytime.

if this happens everytime, people can use this excuse and say they left from zone 2, but actually form zone 1.



Update: it was the bus drivers fault. he didnt change the machine fare to zone 2 and left the bus on as zone 1(even though he was in zone 2).

sounds right to me. if your final destination is zone 3 and you started from zone 1, you'll have to pay extra if you transfer buses. however, most bus drivers don't care.

i started from zone 2 but the bus that i use starts from zone 1. so when i go to zone 3, my ticket says its from zone 1. but ive only been in zone 2 and 3.

bus drivers dont care but at the same time i have to explain the situation to them cuz my ticket doesnt come back out.

You're traveling across one zone (from Zone 2-3), so you should pay for the extra transfer fare.

It's by Honour System. If you fail to pay, and the bus driver remembers you. He can kick you off.

forgot to mention that i use a 2zone ticket. but this situation, the fare machine expects me to get a 3zone.

^^ exactly, i was in only in 2 zones, using a 2 zone ticket, but the bus machine expects a 3zone upgrade. so i can get kicked off for that depending on the driver?

Technically all drivers should do it but they don't give a shit. It's up to you as a Translink rider to be honest with yourself.

Could be wrong but I don't think bus drivers can refuse service if you don't pay. I think it's to do with their safety (arguing with a nut job) and also delaying service to others.

I think some of these people have problems reading.

I used to take the bus like 3 years ago. (chicks dont dig suckers with a bus pass) anyways. I know what you mean Usually the bus changes it zone from 1 to 2 when it passes the hospital going west towards boundry. Usualy once it hits boundry its zone 2.
There have been some times where the bus doesnt change zones until it hit Nanaimo station. But i wonder if they drivers change the zone or if its done by gps.. I'm sure when I used to take the bus it was done by drivers. not sure about now...

honestly, if you're coming from ubc to bcit, that's only 1 bus. pay for 1 zone and drivers won't care.

I'm sure the majority are nice and since this is one of those stops, that it happens a lot so the bus drivers are lenient. Its just the fact that it just creates more problems. What if you needed the tranfer back. Then you would have to pay for another fare just to get a tranfer. Bus driver may let you on the bus but will charge you for a fare since your last transfer already got recognized as insufficient zones. Then you have to explain how your last bus blah blahs blah blah....So it just goes back to being a hassle if the system isnt properly done.

Plus there are dick bus drivers out there!!!!

Honestly if you get a one zone transfer just got back and ask for a 2 zone. That would make the most sense. Cant deny that shit...

once in a blue-moon the bus driver would get everyone to pay zone 2 tickets entering burnaby...and the driver would get ignored until he/she pull the bus over lol

drivers will refuse service you don't pay (unless you are a bum they might give you 1-2 stop ride). I hate it when people ask for free rides..

#25 either comes from Brentwood (Zone 2) or UBC (Zone 1). If you insert a Faresaver (prepaid) or buy a ticket when you get on infront of BCIT, it is stamped as originating from Zone 2.

If you're having an issue where it stamps your ticket as originating from Zone1 when getting on at BCIT, you should check right away and get the driver to issue you a new transfer with the correct zone.

Personally I used to take the #25 nearly everyday from Burnaby (1 stop before BCIT at Canada Way) to Vancouver for 4 years. Not once I had the issue you are describing. Perhaps that has to do with the fact that I was never traveling from Zone 2 [BCIT] to Zone3, either-way you have incredibly bad luck.

fyi: When the #25 hits boundary rd it alerts the driver via GPS with a beep to switch zones, Eastbound (switch to Zone2) or Westbound (Zone1).

It is up to the passenger who recieved the transfer to read the transfer and make sure a correct one is issued. If a wrong one is issued then tell the driver right away and they will make sure a correct one is printed.
