It seems the rest of Vancouver just don't care and skipped town. Lately it's been a ghost town in the downtown core. Going southbound on the Lionsgate at around 5pm, it doesn't get backed up til mid span. Normally it takes 30 mins just to get to the onramp. I thought everyone was taking transit or something but driving down Pender after getting off the bridge, there aren't a whole lot of pedestrians either.

The 'junkies' aren't making the best out of the Olympics - they're just being themselves on camera and repeating what they're told. What do they have to 'believe' about the Olympics? Most don't have a place to live, let alone a TV to watch the games. Sure, they can probably go to some public place to watch the games on a giant screen outdoors, but they won't have time for that. They need to scrounge for food and find a way to pay for their addictions. The Olympics aren't going to produce some 'economic spinoff' that's going to bring money to the DTES and it's not bringing any festivities to their neighborhood.

They don't give a shit about the Olympics, and vice versa.

Right, like Vancouver will get the Winter Olympics again in the next 100 years. You should have protested 7 years ago before we made the bid.

You can do 1 of 2 things:

- You can leave the city, province, or country and not worry about paying for the Games
- You can enjoy the games because you're going to be paying for them anyway, whether you like it or not. In fact, it's in your interest to at least be hospitable because the region needs investment which will benefit you by providing you with jobs.

As for what someone said above about dtes having the biggest junkie population, from what i remember, vancouver has the biggest collection of specifically HEROIN addicts, in the world. That may be per capita though, or most within a small section, because I agree, it's hard to think taht avncouver has more total heroin addicts than a big city like new york.

but I've seen a lotta these hobos around too, many on a daily basis. Kinda weird to think that we have the biggest, or one of the biggest populations of junkies, yet many of us have seen these particular ones in this video every day. Coverup? lol

I personally supported the first 2 projects, but here are some well-known criticisms:

1. The Canada Line is a disaster because it's brought more crime to Richmond and it was the wrong line to have been built (Evergreen and commuter rail from the Valley should have been built, etc.) $1.9 billion.
2. The Sea-to-Sky highway didn't need upgrading - the widened highway has destroyed views that the old road had, a risk-management approach towards accidents on the old highway should have continued, and besides, it's just a highway for the rich. $600 million
3. Security. $900 million

= $3.4 billion
