Need help troubleshooting this issue! This is what's occurring:
I can start the computer, see BIOS etc.
I can see the windows xp logo with the loading bars running across the screen...
BUT...... it never does display the login screen, just blank.
The monitor continues to stay on but there's no display and I CAN blindly login to the desktop.
I have a brand new video card, the motherboard is old and has no integrated one.
I tried the monitor on another computer and it works fine so I know that's not the problem.
Any ideas on how to fix this, OS, software, hardware???
P.S.
I did try getting into safe mode and VGA mode but with no luck...
Re-installing windows is my last option and hope I don't have to.
try plugging in other video outputs on ur videocard, and possibly your mobo if it has onboard
u might've installed windows on dvi, and now that you plug in vga it doesn't catch it, or that you installed from onboard and now using one on pci-e

I think I may have to forfeit to this option, how can I get all my music and files off the hard drive so I don't lose everything when I reformat?

Do you have access to another desktop or at least have an external harddrive? I have several ways to save your stuff but depending on what you have at your disposal I'll only bother explaining the one.
try an ultimate bootcd and pull stuff off to an external
last resort, get a usb-->ide/sata

I do have an external hard drive with more than enough space. Is it very simple? Do I have to scan it with an anti-virus before copy the files off?
