UBC RCMP are hanging around like vultures

Got a speeding ticket along SW Marine drive this afternoon. It was a 40 zone and the officer said I was doing 63.
I saw him parked on the same side of the road and then there was another cop car on the other side. He said they had a "front" and "back" radar and they both caught me going 63.
I think he's BS'ing. He followed me for about 1/2 km before pulling me over.
I'm thinking of contesting it.
Anyways, if you're in the UBC area, do watch out b/c I've seen them hoovering like vultures since Friday.

On the topic of cops...I got pulled over by the VPD tonight going to subway which is like 2 blocks from my house. Don't know why I got pulled over but I assume a black tinted BMW at 1am caught his attention.
Anyways, I didn't question him about getting pulled over because I forgot my license at home so I played it cool. After trying to confirm my identity which took a good 20 mins he finally goes "you're ok, I'm not going to write you a ticket so have a good night". Turned out to be a pretty nice cop because he had every right to slap me with a ticket.

Once I was waiting for the bus and there was this dude with TSX who thought it'd be cool to vtec in front of all the bus riders... and he did it right in front of the rcmp station.
the whole bus stop was laughing at the result
the 40km/hr zone that the OP is talking about is BS though. They expect you to drop from 90 to 40 when there is still a km of empty stretch...

i dont recall SW marine drive having a 40km/h stretch...maybe near the res area

On SW marine right after the turn onto 16th. The res buildings are on the inner side of the blocks... so I still dont like it.

It's 80 through out the highway part of Marine Dr at UBC, then it goes down to 60 just before you hit the traffic light @ 16th. Then it goes down again to 40 after you pass the traffic light on marine dr. So it's not a sudden 90 to 40 if we are talking about the same street at UBC.

I think they are thinking about the 80 -> 60 -> 50 as you go along Marine toward 41st.

were you speeding? if you answer yes, then man up and pay the ticket.
and what do you think he was bs-ing about?
and when he was following you for 1/2 km, he was running your plate, getting the registered owner's/registered driver's name, and checking your police history...

i was told from icbc that you have a full 24 hours to present your drivers license incase you did forget it. don't quote me though, that being said mine is always in my wallet so i'll never be in that situation.

No I think he'd have a good chance if he takes it to court, most of the times the cop doesn't show to court which gets the ticket thrown out.
v.Rossi
02-14-2010, 11:25 PM
well, one cops get paid to go to court now, i don't know about before.
two, cops are slackers so they'll rip it to the nearest timmy hoes, of course sirens on at every red light. they'll get themselves a cup of coffee and a dozen donuts and then they'll see your ass in court. if they're feeling nice that day maybe they'll lower the fine.
this is cops were talking about, whether good or bad. power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Depends on the judge as well. Some judges are pretty nice and will dismiss or lower the ticket depending on your overall record and what the ticket was for. Now if you get a prick judge, well good luck to you.

For those of you who have been to UBC lately, how is the traffic along SW Marine? I'm putting insurance on my bike tomorrow and was going to cruise down there and down the beach. Is SW Marine pretty congested right now?

i go to work every day and im enjoying the decrease in traffic. there is no school right now, so there are less students driving. there may be visitors going to ubc, but the amount of visitors is less than the amount of students.

I still go to school almost everyday and as rageguy has said, traffic flow is much faster now that the amount of traffic has decreased. If you are travelling in Marine Dr., watch out for cops in the 40kph zone. They like to park their motorcycles by the intersection of NW Marine and University Blvd. Just today, I saw 2 RCMP's standing by the curb staring at the traffic. So keep that 40kph and don't get a speeding ticket there :)

They like to hide in the middle of the highway too. Going up to ubc before the first right turn and opposite the lookout point they hide in the forest.
Got pulled over last week, then the next day saw a white TT get pulled over in the same spot. My bad, I just didn't expect them to be in the middle of an 80 zone... they're usually in the entrance or exit when it goes from 80 -> 60 ->50.

At first I thought you were referring the police as vultures (from Starcraft) instead of a type of birds.
