I read the rules but dint really see anything about asking about this.
Basically my question is what are come career fields that pay $10hr right now I'm working retail earning a crap raid of $8 hr even though I've been there for over a year and I've even been promoted to another position but now I'm about to quit but before I do I wanna find another job so pretty much just wondering what at some places that offer pay around this, I don't care if it's retail or a restaurant just really trying to get a sense of other places I could consider applying too, the only thing I have in mind is going back to being a lot person at a dealership cuz it's usually around $10 hr off the bat.

drug dealer - $10,000/day

$10 g's a day? what dealers do you know??

the ones that are pushing bud part-time are making $700 a week, the ones that push crack cocaine and bud are making about $8000 - $15000 a month.

if they were making 10 g's a day they would be at 3.65 mill by the end of the year... not likely.

sorry completely irrelevant to the topic.

Are you a high school student or already graduated? I know this doesn't really matter but I suggest that you focus more on school rather than finding some job that you might not even like. I know that when I say going to school will give you a better job sounds really cliche but unless you really need the money I don't see why you should really be finding a job.

Aside from what I think you should do lol there are some jobs that pay at least $10 an hour.
-Home depot like aznrsx said
-Rona pays at least 10 as well depending where you are( I know since I worked there.. and it sucked balls)
-Security guards get paid at 12+ or 13+ but sometimes you will get shit hours like graveyard
-I think Ikea pays at least 11+ im not sure though
-warehouse jobs like at superstore

the list really goes on. there are quite a few jobs out there that pay 10+ you just have to look.

If bcrdukes is ok with this thread, I'll allow it for a while (his department, his call tho)

$10 p/h jobs are fairly commonplace. I saw the message board on a KFC in Burnaby that was advertising for $10 as a starting wage. Its a livable wage if you don't mind having a roommate or living at home. Keep in mind that this kind of wage won't help you with any bank loans, car notes, or building up your savings.

I know but my $8 hr job in the mall isn't really helping me save any money, reason I'm looking for a new job is one because my job promised me a raise and didn't deliver and two Im splitting a car with my mom and I don't want to have to struggle to make payments to her.

I already graded and have gone through one semester of school I'd rather have a job that pays 10 hr than 8, I kind of want to work at a car dealership again I made 9 at my other dealership and it wasn't hard work just washing cars

Data entry job, $10-$13/hr.
Warehouse jobs, $10-$15/hr.
Canadian Tire starts at $9/hr but if you have work experience you'll get around $9.30/hr.

Anything labour related will pay upwards of 12/hr

I pay my staff $12 to start and after a probationary period, depending on their performance, will get a substantial raise.

find a job in you career field, then excel in it, learning what you can before moving on. you'll make more money going this route than staying in a dead end $10-15/hr job.

Look into office jobs (receptionist/office mail boy etc), they usually pay around ~$10+ (depending on experience and the skills you have).

It might be hard to juggle since you're still in school but usually the workload is quite easy and it's rare you'll have to do much physical labour.

car dealerships such as honda and toyota start you off at around 11 an hour

wat about a job with tips? such as valet, server, bellman?

if you work at a hotel as a switchboard operator, you are looking at 12 an hour, then about 15 an hour once you hit front desk.

it really comes down to what you want to do. if you like schmoozing people then become a server. if you want reliable, steady income, then get a job that pays a higher hourly wage.

i currently have 4 jobs

Joey Restaurants (PT) - valet
Sheraton Hotel (PT) - Banquet server
honda (PT) - lot attendant
VANOC (FT) - bus depot workforce crew

from my experience, cash tips are the way to go. you never have to touch your chequeing account for spending cash. with another (or a few other in my case) higher wage paying jobs, this allows for you to never have to withdraw from your bank account while growing it at the same time.

I'd watch out for car rentals...

I used to work for one, most of them are unionized which is why the pay is a bit more. But overall, a lot of them are cutting back on hours for employees.

not sure if i missed it but ya havent really said what your interested in doing, in highschool i was making $13/hr changing oil and tires and my last job i quit before going back to school i was making $16hr spraying bedliners and driving brand new trucks all day which i was happy with considering it wasnt all that difficult

if ya dont mind getting your hands dirty id say drop resumes at some shops, ya dont need much to change oil and tires, i was doing it in gr10/11 and seeing as your out of school ya should be able to pull 8hr days and ya can usually move up from there

Any places hiring for lot attendant?

CorneringArtist
06-08-2010, 04:07 PM
CL it if you're looking for full-time. I've tried to apply, but I don't think my experience is up to snuff with any dealerships that were hiring.

I managed to get a P/T job working in a warehouse in Aldergrove. $12.76/hr to fill orders for the Overwaitea family of stores (i.e Save-On, Pricesmart). Living in Surrey means a 30-minute commute, but for summer work, the cost is really offset by the work being a bit simple.

Some places require a Class 5, Valet places may require a Class 4, as you may be required to valet a Limo.

Age-wise you'll just need to attain one of those licenses, whichever they request you have. Places like RiverRock Valet or something may require you to be at least 19, due to the environment you work around, but don't quote me on that though.

In the past the ads I've looked at all require at least a Class 5 plus the ability to drive stick and automatic both well, and with a clean driving record.

I used to be a manager at Planet Lazer and racked up $12/hour. And I juggled that around my schedule in High School.

Right now I work at a Seafood Bar and Grill as a Cook, and the hourly wage + tips that I can rack up are pretty good.

If you're looking to make $10+ I'd suggest dropping your resume off at Boston Pizza, Cactus Club, Browns and places like that as a Cold Side, because that's a perfect entry cooking job for kids/people with no cooking experience, and the cooking at those kind of places aren't even considered cooking. It's like putting random stuff onto a plate, and microwaving it. But it looks great on the resume.

Even if they won't allow you to start off as Cold Side, try working as Dishwasher, and apply for Cold Side a month or two in if you've performed well, and they would usually allow you to work your way up.

With "cooking" experience under your belt and on your resume you can now work your way up to more reputable restaurants and get the bigger bucks.

Hope this helps.
