I remember a thread a while back where I was criticizing the captivity of these magnificant creatures of the wild. I was flamed by some and told that this is the only way young children could see such creatures up close. Well, I bet those youngsters got a first hand look at what life's all about.

You lock these animals up and expect them to carry on a good show? I wonder what goes through the killer whales' minds as they, day in and day out, put on a freak show for the masses.

And yes, these whales have brains and feelings. RIP, killer whales that die in captivity.

Interesting....... I never thought about it. The orca didn't eat the trainer, rip the limbs off or anything like that, right?

It didn't sound like it was playing with the trainer. So it was revenge? It could be instincts kicking in.

I tend to think it was, "Fuck you, I'm sick and tired of playing your fool. Take that, and this, and that!"

but rushing onshore to snatch young seals and sea lions is a hunting skill all orcas learn

so every 10 years or so this whale is drowning humans...

you'd think they'd kill him off by the 2nd mistake or send him back to the wild (assuming he still has some sort of hunting skills?)

or maybe they were too cheap to transport it back to the pacific from miami.

In a way, that might be what it wants - to be put out of its misery. Really cruel to have one of those magnificent creatures kept in a small tank. Just for our selfish reasons.

I'm no tree hugger or hippy, but there is no fucking reason to keep wild animals in captivity.

If you want to see killer whales, go out to sea and take those tours. If you can't afford that, watch a documentary or take out a book from the library.

We have enough entertainment watching other humans do incredibly stupid things. We don't need a circus or a zoo.

^^^ depends on when it was capture and what age it might now have the hunting skill to survice.

also orca are pack animal, it's not as simple as just relasing it back into the ocean, it might not be accepted by the local orca group.

did you not watch free willy


the solution should be to not even capture them in the first place.
