Overloaded car + speeding + alcohol = tragic loss of young lives.
Glad he survived so he will see the damage he has done.
From The Province:
Driver in fatal Burnaby rollover crash charged with 10 offences
A 19-year -old has been charged with 10 driving related crimes after a fatal accident took the lives of two young men in Burnaby early Saturday.
Baldip Chandi, who was driving the car, is in custody and appears in court Monday. He is charged with three counts of impaired operation causing bodily harm, two counts of impaired operation causing death, three counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm and two counts of dangerous driving causing death.
Killed in the crash at Willingdon and Still Creek Avenue were two New Westminster men, an 18-year-told and a 20-year-old . Another three people remain in critical condition in hospital. They are a 20-year-old New West man and two 19-year-old women, one from New West and one from Vancouver.
The driver and a 20-year-old Burnaby woman were not injured in the crash.
Burnaby RCMP's Cpl. Brenda Gresiuk said seven people were in the car when the driver lost control and hit a light standard, rolling the car over. The young people, all from Vancouver, Burnaby and New Westminster, were returning from Olympic celebrations downtown.
Police have said speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.
In a press release Cpl. Brenda Gresiuk said: “As the Olympics come to a close and the world is celebrating the senseless loss of these young lives is a solemn reminder to plan ahead for a safe ride home. Be responsible for your personal safety and make sure you arrive alive.”

7 people in the car? geez... my guess is the 2 in the back with no seatbelts died.
not that i would guess the other 3 in the back were wearing them either!
rip, but they should have been smarter than to hindu pack a car driven by a drunk.

on a side note, its just sad to see all those "help!! dui with N license, will i get suspended" threads in the police forum.

They chose to get into a car with someone who had been drinking, and furthermore, pack the car with 7 people.

+ 1 . it is sad for the parents, but they shouldn't blame 100% at the driver. for one, they should of known better not to have been in the car when the driver dranked and was a N driver.
im sure the driver is gonna get like 2 months in jail max with 100 hours of relaxing community service
all the guilt he will have, its better not to live imo

I went to school with the 20 year old.
He was funny guy, made everyone laugh all the time.
It blows my mind still. Lifes a trip, one second can change everything.
His birthday just passed, happy birthday bud and rest up A.R.

R.I.P.
Too bad the people who died learned the lesson through death.
I hope the people who survive learn something out of it.
And i hope the people who read this article or know someone close to them that died through stupidity learn from it and think twice before drinking and driving.

This past Saturday I parked my car in bby at a friends house n taxied it d.t. I drank at a club and forgot to eat before hand and lets just say I got drunk pretty fast. Didn't realize it but next thing I knew i was driving, has to be one of the stupidest things I did because I lost a friend to a drunk driver in the past. Luckily I realized it before I left my buddies street and parked the car back at his house and taxied back to my house in WhiteRock. Promised myself I will never drink if I have access to car keys near me.

i lost a friend to a drunk driver in poco some years ago; he was drunk too but that's why he was in the passenger seat and let his gf drive...
sad thing is his brother, who's a closer friend, didn't learn anything from that loss... and he drinks and drives himself... i bring it up with him whenever he's going to but he doesnt listen...
He has the mentality of "if the guy who killed my brother didn't why should i?" but he can't see that even his brother doesn't believe in drunk driving..
kind of ranting, im sorry
but i just wanted to say im very glad to hear that you're doing the right thing

It's not just kids. I know more adults that drink and drive on a regular basis and KNOW it and choose to continue to. Also, there's been more than a few times I've seen families pack a car with 7 or 8 people with the father driving. Never once have I seen a white/European family, they have all been brown. It may be fine in your country, but welcome to Canada... that's not how we do things here. Smarten up, follow the law or GTFO.

Sorry for your loss, I know how it feels to lose someone close to you.Regarding your friends brother, maybe you should get the family to have a talk to him if its not already been done?

I used to think drinking and driving was very bad and told myself I would never do it, but then lots of upstanding police officers got caught doing it. They did not get disciplined very harshly and other cops even tried to help them get away with it, so I guess the police don't view it as that big a deal.
So now I don't feel guilty driving around hammered as fuck, running lights, and swerving at pedestrians just to scare them, thanks VPD.

The only person who would fail my post, either drives with too many people in the car illegally or thinks I am making a racist comment. So which one is it? I'm sorry I wasn't politically correct. Stating the truth shouldn't get you in trouble. ;)

People take driving for granted. Opening night of Olympics I almost got t-boned (my fault, sober) cause I got too relaxed behind the wheel. That kinda shook me up for a few days and now I don't let my awareness slide anymore. Kinda scary how one bad mind slip can alter lives forever.
As for drinking and driving that's just stupid man. 7 people safe trip from Vancouver to white rock is probably what, $10 each cab fare? I can't imagine the mental anquish this dude is going through. He's probably gonna end up staring at the wall just having conversations with himself even when he's released from jail.

I am just blown away. Retards in our government spend all this money to outlaw handheld devices while driving because a few people have died directly because of them in crashes. Hmm, whats this, 2 deaths from ONE crash DIRECTLY from drinking and driving? They should have saved the goddamn money they spent on this stupid handheld device law, and spent it on doing more impaired checks. Or a cab services after the bars close. Or something to that effect. Drinking and driving kills so many people every year.

Just curious, for those of you who know the people in the car, what do you feel justice should be? Do you think that his remorse will provide adequate punishment, knowing he's killed his friends, or do you feel he should be hit with the book, or somewhere in between?

Drove by today, and saw two RCMP officers at the scene. They look to be investigating the scene still. I think they were detectives, but not quite sure.. they were driving an unmarked SUV.
I hope they throw the book at this kid.
