I don't think drawing a parallel between GM and Toyota, simply on the basis that they've both had large recalls recently, is a fair comparison. I mean... the steering issue on the GM's just makes it difficult to steer at speeds above 27 km/h (which doesn't require as much steering effort as it would, say, trying to park..)... where the Toyota recall was, oh yeah.. KILLING PEOPLE.

Kinda like comparing apples to cans of Spam.

But then again... us GM owners are used to recalls.. Toyota owners aren't :haha:

Our family pretty much expected our GMs to break down. It was only recently I realized that 80,000km was NOT the normal expected life of a transmission. :lol

Now that we have an MB and Toyota in the house.. we pretty much expect nothing to break. The biggest difference imho is the warranty period. My MB had an assload of problems in the first few years but all of it was fixed, no questions asked. And they'd be over stupid things like a cracked cupholder button, ie nothing that would leave you stranded.

Don't get me started on Chrysler. Having owned both in the family, they are even worse than GM. I was seriously hoping they'd disappear.

true that, two totally different thing.

Minor recalls here and there, every car manufacture will be experiencing sometime down the road. Accelerator and break pedal should NOT be something to be fuck around with.

funny enough, the components that are causing trouble for GM were made by the same company the made the components in the steering that caused the toyota steering recall ...

True but that would require customers willing to pay more for a car. The almighty dollar rules everything in the automotive industry and the manufacturers are left looking like the assholes in the end.

^ +1 Would you pay $5k more for the same GM model? If the answer is NO, then you gotta live with the status quo.
