You could also try places like Opus on Granville Island or Loomis on Main street.

How much is your budget? For low-end, Opus or De Serres has a decent selection. For the high-end, I'd go to Shrapnel Design.

There are two stores in Seattle that are really good, if not a little expensive. Paper Haus & Lost Luggage are fantastic. Paper Haus specializes in the Pina Zangaro line, whereas Lost Luggage is a custom portfolio maker. I bought my portfolio at Paper Haus, an aluminum covered one for $55 USD. I asked Lost Luggage if they can make me a portfolio with titanium covers, and I was quoted $700 USD! It would have look really cool though....

Beau at the moment doesn't have a great selection, although I can special order the Pina Zangaro line.

shit... $700 for a binder! the aluminum ones look cool. I dont think im balling to spend that much money though. Maybe around the $50-80 range. Dont want to have a client bend the aluminum by accident after i leave it there for a week. What's ur aluminum one look like? what's the dif between an Opus aluminum one and pinazangaro one for X times the price?

damn this is sexy

Really? You want an oversized iPhone as your portfolio? That thing is such a waste of money.

I think the IPad would make a pretty good tool for a portfolio. Scott Bourne wrote some interesting articles on the Ipad as a photographers tool.

Didn't there used to be a paperhaus on granville street?

Why do you keep wanting to cheap out on a port? If you're going to use it to show potential clients, your portfolio is one of the things you should be spending money on to get the best possible prints. I've seen decent prints come out from Costco for about $2, but they can't hold a candle to the prints that The Lab or G.King does. The Lab, G.King & ABC Colour will sit down with you and go over your colour management, print out a proof for your inspection then do the final print. Yes, it's expensive, but you have control over your final output.

I will wait until the iPad actually comes out until I pass judgement. Almost all of the articles written are just conjecture. I don't know why people write this shit, and why people will read it and believe it...the bloody thing hasn't even been released to market yet! I can see it being carried around with a traditional printed port, but nothing can beat a well printed and presented printed portfolio...yet.

There was a Paper Haus on Granville, but they shut it down because of the logitical problems of owning a small business in Canada & the US.

I think I got custom 11x14 prints done at The Lab for about $30.

The iPad is $500. Some of these portfolios are upward of that price and the iPad is sleeker, easier to use, not to mention more customizable.

Screen size isn't quite as big as a 8x10 (something like 7x9) but not bad. No printing involved so long term cost is low.

I don't really care one way or another. I'll be buying one anyways just to try it out. $500 is cheap (16GB Wi-Fi model) and if I don't like it, I'm sure I'll be able to sell it. Apparently there isn't enough to meet demand according to early reports.

Colour management is another unknown with the iPad. I'm sure it'll be popular with the wedding photographers, but commercial photogs won't want to use it, me thinks.

11x14 aspect ratio, do you have to crop to make the pictures work? cuz dslr aspect ratio brings it to 11x17 no?
