I will give you a scenario;

5 years into the future USA has managed to piss off the entire global community. Everyone has ceased importing because there currency is worthless. Now they are desperate for water, minerals and oil. They look north. They fake mutiple terrorist attacks and blame them on Canada. With the nation supporting them, they attack Canada.

Would you fight for Canada, or would you let them take over?

You'd be surprised how much small arms/assault rifles are stock piled at bases across the country. There would be plenty to go around. As far as defending the land with armour and the skies with fighters, not so much. We'd be fighting a gorilla style war, the US doesn't fare too well in those type of conflicts anyways. ie. Afghanistan and Iraq. Try to take on the US with a modern force, and it would be lights out within a few hours.

You are also assuming that the EU would just sit back and let the US walk in. I'd bet that many of the middle eastern countries would offer support due to their hatred of the states.

There is really no need to physically fight. Everything is on computers now. A few strategically placed hackers can bring down power, water, communications, banking, etc and send them back to the stone age. The more people they have, the more panic and confusion will occur. And, in case of such an event, their military will be severely strained between taking care of their own citizens and fighting a war. When you are the David in David vs Goliath situation, you need brains more than brute strength. I would fight, but in a way that keeps myself safe from harm with actions that will actually put a dent in their campaign. I don't think guns blazing with a flag wrapped around you kicking and screaming is the way to go about this.

I know one specific special ops guy from Canada's military that was offered full dual citizenship and a VERY hefty pay increase to work for the US Military.

We have better training, it's been proven. Canadians constantly win all of the competitions for sniping and things like that.
