Gaming mouse suggestions

I did a search to see if there's any recent topics but found none. So hopefully I'm not beating a dead horse by bringing this topic up.
I'm not too sure what features/specs I should be looking for. The issue I'm having is with FPS shooters. Mainly with precision aiming (sniping). As I'm zoomed in trying to hit a target I often can't even move the crosshair over the target. It seems to just skip over it instead.
Should I be looking for a mouse with higher DPI? I'm using a Logitech MX Revolution right now thinking it was a good mouse not realizing gaming mice are not usually wireless.
What brand/model of gaming mice are good? I'll assume Razer, Logitech, Cyber, etc are all pretty good. Which ones are you guys using and what are the pros and cons of the gaming mouse you're using?
Anyone using the Razer Mamba?
Thanks for the input guys!

I just picked up a Logitech G500 and it has a lot of useful features for gaming. Best of all, it's shaped like an MX 510 or whatever it's called. Great mouse, great price compared to the pure gaming brands.

i have a logitech G9 and one of the features i LOVE is the button to adjust dpi settings...
i've been playing bad company 2 since it came out, and i use this button ALL the time!
I have the dpi set for my normal 'on-foot' solidering, but as soon as I jump in a vehicle, the mouse inputs are much slower... so i just hit the button to speed up the tracking/dpi (whatever the hell it does) and bam!!! my tank turret is moving faster with the same mouse input!
I love it!

get the Razer Mamba, its $60 off atm @ Ncix, so its only $100
much better than the MX Revolution
i got the mamba myself, and its awesome :D feels great, looks awesome, and lots of settings to set for sensitivity

Whatever you do, don't use a wireless mouse. I can't stand using them in anything, let alone games. Even a few milliseconds of lag is noticeable, as is the fewer updates per second.

Does the mamba have the on the fly dpi adjustments too?
What are the benefits of going with a higher dpi mouse? I see the G9 for $60 which is 3200DPI, and the G9x is 5700DPI.

It basically increases sensitivity without losing accuracy. Anything above 2000 is kind of useless, at least in my experience. I suppose you could crank up the DPI and lower the sensitivity all the way, but even then your mouse cursor will be everywhere.
Unless you're on a ridiculously high resolution monitor, of course :)

My $20 MS Laser Mouse 6000 and some cheap mousepad has served me well in years. I didn't see any gains from trying the g9 and the mamba.
been using a G5 for a while.. it's a classic!

Hmmm $59 for the G9 or $99 for the Mamba.
Decisions.

maybe read the rest of the thread as well.
but it sounds like there is a new G9 version g9x which has crazy high dpi as well.
but for me, now that i'm used to on the fly dpi adjustments and the games I fly (bc2) no dpi adjustment is a deal breaker. (note, no idea if mamba has it or not...)

Apparently the mamba has on the fly dpi adjustments also.
Thanks for the thread, I came accross the same thread while googling.
So it seems super high dpi is kinda pointless. I really want the razer but the whole wireless thing worries me now. I've only gamed on wireless but now understand the frustrations that come along with it. I'm using this for BFBC2 also.

I think i'll just go with the old G9. Thanks for everyones input. Helped alot. Gonna order it now!

mamba does have on the fly dpi adjustments
best thing about mamba, it can go wireless and wired whenever you want :) + the charging dock just looks so damn nice
I don't find the G9 comfortable at all but I don't play w/ the usual FPS "claw" style ...
I like to rest my palm and relax my fingers, so the MX518 shape seems to work better for me ...

+1 points for this post man
i used the mx518, which is exactly the same as the g500, but the g500 has a bunch more buttons, in fact out of all the logitech mouses it has the most buttons.
the g9x laser mouse is nice too, but has less buttons than the g500.
the more buttons the better for gaming... and the g9x is also more expensive.
lol i did some major research when i was really into wow lol. every button on my mouse would be programmed for something.
anyways logitech has an awesome warranty and the g500 is by far the best gaming mouse in terms of buttons and features, for an okay price. considering all i just said anyways.
as for crazy ass extra high DPI, give me a break, if "Thresh" could pwn a buncha people with ball mouse technology back in the quake, those few extra DPI aint gonna make a diff to a normal human being unless you're like a cyborg or some shit...
i used to play a lot of FPS, and i mainly play TF2 now, and honestly, on the fly dpi adjustment isnt that big of a deal, i never even fucking use it.
i can see why some people use it for sniping but honestly, it's more muscle memory than anything, you play long enough your body adapts and you can snipe with super high sensitivity.
I remember back in the quake/quake2 days, you could always tell who was a hardcore FPSer when use used their computer from the fact that their mouse sensitivity was so fuckin high, but they had such fine motor control with their hands that it enabled to to do crazy things like spin 180's and do head shots just by a small flick of the wrist.

Im using a G7, wireless mouse. Honestly theres no real "lag", so im not sure what you guys are talking about when you say you cant stand a wireless cause of the lag time between moving and actually moving on the screen. It also has a on the fly dpi buttons with 3 settings. Another thing I like is the removable battery, you get 2. So if and when I run out, it takes like 2 seconds to swap with a new one and you are good to go.
Its basically a G5, but wireless and minus the weight cause of the battery. I think a lot of people have the G5.

^ Trust me, hardcore gamers will stay away from wireless mouses due to the "lag". It is easily noticeable even on high end ones, sucks to play FPS games with wireless!

I got Sennheiser PC161's which are pretty good. I was thinking of buying the PC350's but at double the price ($219 retail) I opted for the PC161 ($99 retail). The PC350 is a full headset which covers your whole ear which should block out alot of the ambient noise.
I'm comtemplating on returning the 161's for the 350. I dunno if it's really worth double.

That's what I'm using. NCIX special $129 sale! Great headsets - I went from PC151 to this. I used to be into high-end headphones - Sennheiser HD600 + recable, Beyerdynamic DT770 woodied, etc. These sound quite good!

It's definitely worth it - sound quality improves quite a lot between the two. Also much better at isolation, and much more comfortable for long-term use because of the circumaural vs. supra-aural nature of the design. It's really good when you can get it for $129 on special.

I ended up returning the G9 and went with the Sentinel for $42.65. It seemed to perform similar and a fraction of the price. Oh and looks better than the G9 IMO.
I like the fact it's a little bigger and similar to my MX Revolution in shape.
I wouldn't have believed it but holy crap did it drastically improve gameplay. It's no wonder I was have so many issues aiming at ppl. I didn't really have issues wih BF2. But BC2 seems harder and need more precision.
Anyways, thanks again for everyones input. Now I gotta upgrade my headset.

One cool feature of the G500 is that you can switch how the mouse wheel behaves, mechanically. It can either be in 'free wheel' mode, which lets you quickly spin it and stop it with your finger (great for getting to the top or bottom of a long web page) or standard 'click' mode, where each 'click' of the wheel is one scroll. This is better for switching weapons in games, etc. Pretty cool!

headsets:
pc350 goes on sale for 130-150 every few months
it's the best headset out there if you have a soundcard
otherwise the g35 is the best way to go (the simulated 7.1 is great too).

I got the PC350. I can't really say it's much better than the PC161's in terms of sound quality. Mind you I only tested with gaming and mp3's and not an actual CD.
The fact it fully engulfs your ear and blocks out ambient noise helps with improving the sound. But I don't know if I would spend anywhere near retail for them. I'm not running a sound card, but I do have a spare one kicking around. Would it make that much difference?
Thanks for the advice on pricing. I work in the industry so I get them for about that price. $128.xx + taxes. I still found that a little too expensive IMO.

I like the shape of the G500 better than the G9. But the Sentinel was like half the price and was similar in shape.

^What kind of mouse pad are you using with your new mouse?
I'm not really sure but I've always used bare desk but you might even get more out of it if you get a QCK or even a razer mouse pad. A medium sized QCK mouse pad goes for like $10 at ncix.

I use two mice: Razer Naga for gaming and Logitech MX Revolution for everything else.
Lately everything has been interfering with my mx revolution but that flywheel scroll is just so damn convenient.
The Naga is pretty good but it's shitty that you can't manually program the side buttons.

so damn true.
Used a Microsoft Sidewinder during the good old days of "push for world first kills" in Warcraft. Have used tons of Razers, Logitechs but the stacking 4th and 5th mouse buttons worked really well when you got to watch 25 ppl's health and Mana and dont wanna mis-click a spell. Oh and the custom weight thing is a nice touch too.
I was forced to PVP with a friend at his place (to get his bloody shoulders) so had to use his sister's PC with a regular 3 button mouse and it was pure hell. Jump/turn-cast-turn/land was almost impossible and was a real PIA to pillar hump LoS with that thing. You can have the best skills but with a shitty tool, its gonna be hell.

for all the mamber users here
are you guys experiencing any issues with the mouse? Specifically all the mouse acts up (for me its during bf: bad company2 ) all the sudden the cursor stops moving for 2-3 seconds and then come back again? then it would just keep doing it until i unplug or pull the battery out
The strange thing is when this happens, it'll happen on any other computer as i tried unplugging it immediately and trying it on 2 other computers...its as if the memory in the mouse retained something thats screwing it up
I am trying to deal with Razer support with this but no luck so far.

i originally planned on getting the CM Sentinel, but it was out of stock, and i found this instead
it's cheaper than the other gaming mouses out there (where i live at least), and i don't have any complaints so far
you can also change the weights in it, with 3x6g and 1x20g weights, it's an interesting feature but it's useless for me, i doubt i'll be changing the weights to suit different gaming.

It was $50, Sentinel costs about $63 (I'm in HK).
I just took a look at the Sentinel, are you talking about the front LED where the wire comes out? If that's always on, I can see why you don't like it. The only part that lights up on the Gigabyte mouse is the "GHOST" part.
You can set up to 5 profiles and choose from 27 LED colours. Also can set 4 DPI settings.
Ya, they look pretty similar. I figured there's probably not a noticeable difference between the two mouses, so i went with the cheaper one.
I've been gaming with the heavy wireless mouse for so long, it took me awhile to get used to this. But I seem to be doing better now in BFBC2, aiming actually does feel more accurate.

if you dont like the LED light on the sentinel being on all the time you can acutally turn it off in the driver setting menu.
