Food trailers in Richmond: Tenku, Shoryumen, Fumisen (Takoyaki, Ramen, Sushi Roll)

After its rave reviews from last year, Tenku Budanyaki has opened, this year with two other stalls: Shoryumen for Ramen and Fumisen for Sushi Rolls.
I went there today for some Ramen and Sushi roll, and let me tell you it was delicious.
I got the Miso soup base with the ramen, with green onion and japanese pork. The soup was tasty and fairly natural tasting, the ramen was cooked beautifully al dente, and the condiments were perfect.
After the Ramen, I had some sushi rolls, small seaweed cone with Sushi Rice, BBQ unagi, green onion and tobiko, and wasabi mayo. The rice was warm and well done, with fresh ingredients.
Overall, it is awesome that Vancouver is getting more authentic, quick food stalls. Sure beats a greasy Big Mac Meal!

do they have any more seats set up, or is it still standing only?

It's all standing room. They built a wooden shed with planks where you can stand and eat.

had the chance to go over for lunch last week. Everything was great. especially liked the cones. Found the bukudanyaki was a bit much...seems to be about a 1/4 cup of may on top ! Ramen was good but maybe more expensive then I expected to pay at a stall in a parking lot?

Perhaps. But the quality of ramen rivals sit-down restaurants, which you would likely pay similar prices, so it's not too shabby.

I believe it's Elmbridge and Gilbert. Across from the Rona in Richmond beside the ICBC inspection place.

Had the ramen. pretty good. Bring your own bowl to save 50 cents. Can't really compare to kintaro but if I were to compare the broth, kintaro wins.
The sushi cone place looked alright. All three are a nice place to go to, but only once in a while.

Tip: Park at Rona and then walk across the street. The parking lot beside these food trailers is a pay lot.

No idea, whatever they feel like. They closed back in october or november last year, and opened back up at at the end of Feb.

well i was just there.
ate at every stall. The guy has a good passion for food and is fun to talk too... so you know its goign to be good.
got the rich pork broth with pork, egg, corn and fish cake. Was pretty good. I should have got it a little spicier though
Then I went to the sushi guy and it was amazing. Got "the sandwhich" (tuna and chicken i believe).
And then got a curry ball.
damn it's good. I think i found my new lunch joint.

Japanese pork ftw.
Give me a call when you go, I may join you!
went there the other day to try the ramen. the miso ramen was good despite not having anything to accompany them aside from veggies. soup broth was light (unlike thicker fattier broths used in kintaro, g-men etc.). worth a try since it was something like 5.75 and is a good snack. will probably try the tonkotsu next time to compare it against the miso.

went on saturday; my thoughts:
1. parking
parked at rona which is a 2 minute walk away...didn't realize u can just park i nthe paid lot and not pay. No parking attendants around and even if there were, you're in/beside your car, so they would just tell you to pay or leave
2. ramen
you pick the broth and then for $3 you can add 4 items to it. I picked fishcake, mixed veggies, egg and kimchi. it already comes with seaweed, sprouts and veggies regardless i think...so if you're giong for that, i'd pick other shit.
The taste was good though, if you prefer the light style ramen broth to the heavier kind (i do). I got the miso one, it was awesome.
3. takoyaki
got the chill mayo. Good as usual...an acquired taste though it seems...(for the takoyaki in general)
4. cone
got the small salmon with wasabi mayo, green onions and cucumbers. It was kinda bland and i've had better at sushi places. There also weren't many "interesting" or "unique" toppings to choose from. Don't get me wrong, it was good, but not really worth it, as it's something i can get at most sushi places at equal or better quality imo.
5. revscene
LOL it was revscene member central on saturday it seems hahahhaa. Saw so many souped up, lowered and/or riced out cars, i couldn't even count hahahahhaha. I kept telling my gf taht half of revscene must be here. She kept telling me i'm a loser lol.

i thought the ramen really sucked there. not cooked well, small portions, with everything added it costed about $10+, id rather have a nice big bowl of ramen from ANY of the downtown joints.

For the Ramen, what topings does just the regular one come with?
been there 2 weeks ago, food is ok, a bit pricy for street food, good experience but going once is enough.

i haven't ordered the small before, only the largest size (it's like $8.50 or something) and I really enjoyed it. i've had it 3 or 4 times now and i just love the mash of flavours (i've always made it a combination with salmon and unagi/prawn tempura/prawn gyoza)
i wouldn't go out of my way to visit this place though... i just happen to live nearby. for those of you who haven't tried it, i do recommend giving it a shot.

Just went there yesterday - prices are not bad for what you get. They are moving again to a location near the River Rock next week.
Tasted good, but the portion was small.

The sushi rice was perfectly made, and the toro was fresh.

I was there this afternoon. Had a cone and a "ball". Will write more later.
To be honest, did it not seem a little expensive for what it was?
sonick
05-13-2010, 07:00 AM
^ a tad, especially for the ramen. I am not a fan of the balls to begin with, but the cones were decently priced for the size.

The ramen maybe, but the cone was worth it. It's rare to find properly made sushi rice in Vancouver.

went there for lunch today.
Kind of a rip off, the ramen portions were fucking TINY.
I wouldn't pay more than $4. It was delicious though, but not worth $7.75
