It wasn't out of necessity. It was a World Record thing.

I was expecting the guy to be trapped somewhere like that little girl that was stuck in the water while people were talking to her, until she died.

the wiki page isnt too informative but it sounds like rescuers saw that her feet were trapped and just decided "whatever"

Yup, pretty messed up situation.

You'd think they would accept that she would lose her legs and just move or breakup the concrete that had her pinned - or worst case, amputate on the spot and get her immediate medical attention. But to just sit there and take pictures and talk to her, while doing nothing else, is beyond me. Not that it really makes a difference but this was 25 years ago.

Yeah this video blows now, only cause he chose to do it for some world record.

Honestly, anyone can do this if they cared enough. I mean after knowing he was even fed.
Just that no one gives a crap to stay underwater for 10 days cause it's hella boring.
And the world record isn't worth the time.
