: Anyone got Telus Sales Agent knocking your door?

Long story short, basically a sales agent came to my apartment and saying that Telus is offering a Phone + Highspeed Internet + TV for $31/month for first year, and about $80/month starting second + third year.

With 3 year contract, they will give a free laptop + PVR + free installation. The only reason I didn't switch to Telus before is due to this 3 year long ass contract, but the guy said it's not as restrictive in a sense that if you move to other locations where there is no Telus service, you will not be penalized. The only way you'll be penalized is if you say, move locally where there's still Telus service, and you decide to switch to another service.

Anyway I'm kinda tempted since with Shaw, it's about $80~90 altogether every month. So there's significant saving in the first year and from then on, it's about the same price.

Just wondering if anyone else had sales agent from Telus coming to you and advertise this offer, and those with Telus, what are your experiences with them?

Shaw did that to me. They sent some girl representative to my area and knocked on all the doors down the entire street.

Yup I had this a while ago too. East Van. After a long chat with the guy and many questions from me, I concluded the guy knew nothing about what he was selling. Basically reading out of the manual telling me the exact same thing I could find out by the telus site. I know its not that guys fault and all but I didnt go through with the offer, even though it would save me a bit of money compared to my current Shaw plan.

Interesting thing is I can't seem to find this offer on Telus website. My parent called Telus using Chinese service and they said they could only give $41/month. Seems like what they can offer depends on which department you're in. The girl on the phone was saying stuff like difference between inbound and outbound sales.

The thing is, these offers are only available from these door to door people at that specific time. Not surprising that you nor your parents can get the same deal from the website of the Chinese service. The "catch", if you are to call it that, with these door to door sales is that you have to sign then and there.

When the guy came to my house, my parents originally talked to them. And then I went to check why there were other voices in the house. And that's when I started talking to them, I told me parents don't sign anything until I go over it. But being parents, they had already signed and were just finishing the paper work. I then asked my questions to the two reps and concluded they knew nothing about the service or even Telus in general, lol.

Fortunately it takes around 1-2 weeks for the sign on to come into effect and the Shaw one would be canceled. So within a couple days of the signing, I called Telus and told them to cancel the deal. So now I'm still with Shaw.

One of the main reasons I didn't take the deal was because of the Telus internet. Although the service is different for everyone depending on where you live, I knew too many people from Burnaby and even down the road at my friends house who have had horrible experiences with Telus internet.

just tell them shaw is offering xx
and they'll match it and give a better offer

Those people are door to door sales, the only relation they have with shaw or telus is that shaw and telus pay them.
I used to work for one for a few days, you can get the same deal by calling in. The only reason they pressure you into signing the deal then n there is that they get commision and they have no wage.

Shaw will be knocking at your door in a few days. Telus always is first LOL

hmmm, you sure I can get the same deal by calling in? Since the Chinese service couldn't give such offer, maybe I could try English one.

the thing with CSRs is it's mostly a hit and miss. SOME r very willing to offer u what u want while SOME r very rude and wont budge for shit.

never sign those deals with door to door salesmen. If you really want it, the next day. Just call back Telus and talk to one of their CSR's and they will gladly give that same offer to you.

flagella

^Is there any difference between getting the same deal from either the salesmen or one of CSRs?

One thing's for sure, when I had Telus, my internet never fucked up like Shaw does. It was just slow as hell.

Is Telus internet that bad? I had Telus before but it wasn't that bad. It wasn't as fast as Shaw's, but definitely not terrible as people described.

look at the channel list!!
$10 a month for a year plus pvr and highspeed internets blah blah blah

so i looked over the channel list, no HD no history no showcase no space no spike so tv tropolis
fuck that! its all extra if you want any good channels. i signed so i would have leverage when i phoned shaw to negotiate a better deal, after they played ball a bit i phoned telus back and told them to cancel my isntall appt

I use Telus Internet and phone and everytime the phone rings or hangs up, my Internet disconnects for a 30 seconds. Pisses me off.

But like someone posted above. It's not really shaw or telus knocking on your door, it's 3rd party marketers that get paid a sum from telus shaw and are only paid of they sign u up. 100% commision. Sucks for a job that's rain or shine.. But someone's gotta annoy us

ditto. i just moved in and set up shaw with their new member promos so i wasnt interested much at all, but i was asking the guy about telus' HD services to see if it's worth switching over down teh line. he knew nothing and read from the pamphlet. i just said give me the pamphlet and i'll read it myself

maybe when my shaw promos are over i might consider

I work for Telus as an I&R guy so I'll let you know how things work.

The door guys aren't related to Telus at all, they are just field agent work we contracted out. My buddy use to work for the Rogers one and told me that they usually lie abit about the price say its 5-10 dollars cheaper than what it really is and when the people gets the bill its too late cause its now Rogers issue.

Pretty much you buy from him, he gets commission. When you call into Telus you buy from them and no one gets commission.

Or you can buy it from me and I'll get paid :haha: but I'll make sure it goes through right as well.

Either way if anyone has issues with their service you can feel free to pm me if you dont wanna go thru all the automated questions and hold times.

we got something like that but I can't tell you exact price until I know what TV you are refering too.

Satellite or IPTV

btw I would go with the IPTV since we just released the new version except unlike the last stuff (which honestly wasnt very good) we didn't make it in house. Its actually a system that has been out in the US for a while. Plus its kinda cool if you have an x-box you can use it to watch TV and stuff.

I'm not too familiar with TV stuff. I think we're just going with the basic one? Our family doesn't really watch TV except my mom who only watches a single Chinese channel.

^ i have phone/tv/internet from Telus, it's really had its ups and downs (consider this: when your internet is down, so is your TV. and telus internet seems less reliable than shaw.) but i think it's okay now. if you manage to get a good deal from them then it's worth considering.

when you get Telus internet and TV bundled together though, you get 10-15 (I get about 10-13) Mbps d/l bandwidth, 0.6-0.7Mbps u/l. you give up bandwidth when you're watching HD channels on your TV: about 4Mbps per TV that's on and watching an HD channel. but personally I don't watch a lot of TV so I usually get the full 11 or 12Mbps. it's nice downloading files at like 1.2MB/s now hahaha

basic Telus TV does come with free HD channels:

I know because I'm a cheapass and I have basic TV haha.

yo Mr. Jay how do I watch TV through my xbox??

It is something that can work with the new product and does on other providers in the US. Telus has not yet implemented the feature. The platform for the TV is microsoft based so there are a lot of possibilities in the future.

If you saw the old tv service and were not happy with it i could understand, the new service however i am actually happy to be installing and telling people about. It is the product that Telus should have first brought to the market.

During the whole internal launch this feature was brought up by the presenter who came to speak to us. I figure we would have offered this feature if it was talked about in the meeting.

Either way I'll ask when I'm in training.

I was not a fan of the old platform but deff like Mediaroom. Mainly due to the bump in ADSL speed for me (was on 3.0 before) but the one thing I find annoying is that the guide shows you channels you dont have.

That's my biggest complaint as well. I had to sit there and tick off every single channel that i didn't have off the Guide =/.

They recently upgraded me to the new one I think. I can now play things I recorded through my PVR at any other TV through the house. Do I have mediaroom?
