VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - The Olympic line-ups still aren't over. Get ready to wait if you want something from VANOC's flea market of leftovers.
More than 220,000 items are up for grabs - from clothing and furniture to electronics and more than a few unused snow shovels. Volunteers, employees and performers have first dibs this week, with the sale being open to the public on Saturday, March 27.
Each day 40 things are put out, meaning the good deals will not sell out right away, and the oversized garage sale will last into June.
Some sample prices: 200 dollars for a TV, 70 for a bullhorn, and a toonie for a windsheild scraper.
It runs daily from 9:00a.m. to 3:00p.m., at VANOC's Delta warehouse - 7530 Hopcott Road.
I heard this on the Kid Carson show this morning, a guy called in and said his friend works for Vanoc so his friend has first dibs on the merchandise. The guy said that a 42" LCD TV is really for $200.
I'm gonna go check it out!

I heard the 42" plasmas are $499 and the 26" LCD's are $200.
And, this has already been posted in the Olympics thread: http://www.revscene.net/forums/official-vancouver-2010-t592748p86.html

I was there on Saturday. TVs sell out fast! So do laptops. The 42" is $500, the 26" is $199, and laptops are $300-ish, I believe.
Other than that, just a lot of household stuff used in the Athlete's Village - garbage cans, ironing boards, cutlery, dishes, rope, fridges, leather couches, coffee tables, extension cords, flashlights, etc.
Anyone with VANOC accreditation can bring a guest before the sale opens to the public.

What's the retail on one of those things? The 42" I mean. I'm out right now so can't check, but I want to go and check it out and see if I can snag one. Can someone also tell me
if this will work as a computer monitor ?

depending on the model, a 42" panasonic plasma is anywhere from ~1000-1500 dollars
that's gonna be a pretty big computer monitor if that's what you get it for though =\ eyesore

The 42" is the TCP42X1, which is 720p, so you probably wouldn't want to use it as a computer monitor. It's retail price now is about $700-800, but most stores don't carry it anymore.

it's a decent deal at best then..300 hours since they were probably on 24/7 for 2 weeks straight..maybe longer for the paralympics as well. not sure but they might even add taxes even though its considered flee market?

if you order from the states (crutchfield, amazon, bhphoto) its $599 for a new one and $499 for a used one
so it doesn't sound like its a fantastic deal but a nice one

If you're buying a fridge, just pray you didn't get Team Korea's leftovers.
We took over their office for Paralympics and the smell in the fridge was FOUL.

Layout:
You will be in line outside, so be prepared for the weather. Once allowed in, the very first table you see will have display models of the TVs and laptops. There are limited number of units available each day, so you need to get there very early.
Go to the TV/laptop you want and grab the sheet with a barcode on it. This will secure your purchase. Take the sheet, and pay for your purchase. There is a limit on one per person.
You present your receipt on another side of the warehouse, and that's when you will get your product.
Accreditation:
Any VANOC accreditation will do - if you are a paid VANOC employee or a Volunteer, you can be allowed to purchase before the public sale.
Method of payment:
Credit cards are all accepted (not just Visa).
Taxes are charged on top of the ticket price.
Couches:
Dark brown, looks okay, doesn't feel particularly high-end, quite uncomfortable to sit in (firm cushions).
