VANCOUVER -- Vancouver nightclubs tend to be one-trick ponies. One space, one DJ, one theme running throughout.

Vincent Alvaro thinks this is a bit boring. So he wants to shake things up with his new club, Five Sixty.

Located in the old A&B Sound store at 560 Seymour, it’s much larger than most local nightclubs – 28,000 sq. ft. spread over four floors. The size means it can have several different themes within the overall space. When it’s going full-tilt, 500 patrons will be able to walk around and choose between three separate mini-clubs, each with its own DJ.

That's probably the "official capacity" according to the club's licence.

I'm sure they can let in twice as many... provided the cops don't do a spot check.

This sounds like a great venue if they can stick to the owner's vision. Only time will tell if it becomes a magnet for the poseurs.

Im pretty choked to hear that the old A&B closed down. I can recall sensing
the place was going to be shut down a while ago so I decided to buy a couple items from the top floor including a couple tracks that really should blow the top off of any joint. Remember the days when a cassette was finished it was pretty much useless?

Im not digging the pressures of nightlife. Its not cheap nowadays to dress,
to be a heavy drinker albeit twice a week. Honestly, I dont see how the average joe can afford to do that. I try to keep it honest and just force myself to be a once a weeker and have a nice day off.

I went by last night, the venue itself is pretty nice but some of the stairwells leading to the other levels was a bit confusing, we ended up in kitchen at one point and even one of the bouncers was confused. The free appetizers & sushi was a nice touch. Can't say how the lines where like since I knew a couple of the doormen and we just walked right in, but it didn't look like they where holding up the line too much.

My buddies and I left after checking out the venue because the crowd wasn't our scene and a bit odd last night, there where a lot of gays, lesbians and transsexuals there last night.

I spoke to one of the bouncers and apparently one of the reasons why there where so many gays, lesbos and trannys in there was that the owner had placed a bunch of flyers all up and down Davie St/gay district.
