: So I almost got arrested at the US BORDER BLAINE

Lissy

Need a bit of help here,

I was gonna go down to the states to do some shopping at the Seattle Premium outlets, until I was called into the customs border office. After waiting in line for 1 hr, and sitting down waiting to see wtf was up with my passport for another hour. 2 agents came and hand cuffed me, sat me down and said I had a warrant for my arrest in the state of washington. THey would not tell me why, until 1 hr later.

Apparently, it was over a old ticket i had back in the summer that I failed to pay off. They didn't explain to me how I can pay it, or how I can have the warrant dropped.

Question, now. How do I get the warrant off my ass ? They wouldnt even let me pass the border if i wanted to pay!

Do you remember receiving a ticket back in the summer?

corollagtSr5
03-28-2010, 03:31 AM
so they cuffed you and released you, doesn't make sense

if there was a warrant for your arrest you'd be in jail

then they make you pay for the ticket and release you

THIS is why you don't ignore traffic violation tickets that you get in the US.

We should direct users to this thread anytime someone asks what they should do when they get a speeding ticket down south.

I remember u askin about if u should pay a ticket u got in the US in the police forums.

We all warned you to pay any kind of ticket u get.

I'm pretty sure you a chance to pay it off and then they bar you from coming to the US for awhile too.

When you get a ticket. It tells you how to pay for the ticket. You basically mail them a cheque to whatever address is listed in US funds.

I don't understand why some people think its ok to ignore a ticket and not expect anything to happen. You could have at least disputed the ticket if you felt it was unfair or couldn't pay for it. You'll need all the luck and maybe a lawyer to sort this mess out.

any reason why you're not paying it besides being cheap?

cheaps not even the reason, i am not guilty of the crime so I dont pay.

I was on the highway and a cop was abt 10 cars ahead so I was staying behind going abt 100-110.

As Im traveling in the left lane, I see a driver changing lanes like mad and saw it was a cop car. He started coming up fast so I immediately moved over to the right to let him pass and he followed me.

Then he turend on his cherries and said I was going 130-140. I told him I wasnt speeding and he asked me "Oh you dont think you were going that fast?" I said "I know I wasnt going that speed". Regardless he said I was speeding and gave me a ticket, and did a burnout while merging back in on the highway.

Suprisingly 15mins later on the highway I see him pulling over another Canadian vehicle.

I'm not paying cuz I didnt speed, and I didnt dispute it because there is no chance in hell I can make it down there anyways so I took a chance and it work

He had forgot to avoid driving through that state b/c it was so long ago and he didn't think anything of it as he was just passing through.

But thanks to the OP for bringing this up. Now I have 2 stories to help reinforce to friends why they should be paying off tickets, especially in the states.

I highly doubt that.

I received a ticket in Delaware (I was there on business but was living in Colorado at the time) and the State of Colorado sent me a letter asking me to pay the fine in Delaware or they would suspend my license.

That in itself makes me think that the ticketing system is interlinked probably nationwide.

Also, you mentioned that your uncles friend did the ticketing system for the state of Washington. Wouldn't that mean that any cop in Washington could find out your ticket history and not just the county cops?

Usually i just say its a cartoon bear or "pedestrian bear". I never actually say pedobear and I doubt border police will know many internet memes :P

Seriously, don't even mention the word pedo, i just assume that was common sense, especially at the border crossing.

Apparently you did (and forgot about the ticket or what not), and you got owned.

End of story.

You people lack common sense. Why the hell would you joke around at the borders?
Does it look like a time to be joking?
Do you think joking makes the situation any funnier so that we can all have a good time, and get through the process any faster?
You give them any reason to make the process longer, then it will be longer.

Even if I was a dumbass with a pedosticker on the back, I would simply tell them it's a decal of a bear. Why the hell would anyone be stupid enough to associate it with anything pedophilia.

Cops are rarely ever wrong. And remember, they can pull you over even if you're going 1 km/h (or mph) over. And if you're following flow of traffic, you can THINK you're not speeding, but it doesn't exempt you from being pulled over. Maybe it's bad luck, but don't be a baby about it.

If you don't want to pay, that's fine... just don't go back to the states again, or you'll end up being a bigger noob, like OP.

I remember looking this up. Not sure if I remember correctly but if you get a ticket on the highway, those are state troopers and as a result, it is under state jurisdiction. Therefore, if you get a ticket in Washington, you should pay that ticket. However, if you get one elsewhere, then you don't really have to bother. Got a ticket last week, better pay it.
On the back of the ticket it says I have 15 days to respond but does anybody know how long before it shows up in their system at the border?

I got a massive speeding ticket back in...'03 for going through Oregon at...quite a high speed. I didn't pay it. Never had any trouble at the border.

I remember getting one while driving through Wyoming once too (don't ask why the fuck I was in Wyoming...) and I tossed that one too.
I don't understand what you're saying - what's so special about Washington, compared to Wyoming at least? They're both States. What if you get a ticket on a highway from state troopers in Wyoming? Wouldn't that also be under state jurisdiction?

The point he's trying to make is that he's not gonna be driving back to Wyoming anytime soon where as he will frequently travel to washington state because it's so close. If you get a ticket in Wyoming, they can't throw you in jail if they catch you driving in washington state.

hey guys,

pcking someone up who is crossing the into Canada using the truck crossing.

is there somewhere(still in Canada)...like a gas station ,restaurant, where I can park my car and have a coffee.

somewhere that will be of walking distance to my friend who is crossing by foot?

I just don't want to accidentally get into a wrong lane and be forced to cross the border into U.S.

Let me know, appreciate you taking the time to reply(whoever you are)

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Ronin.

So at duty free can I get a coffee and possibly grab food there?

or is it strictly ciggarettes, booze and colognes and shite?

Thanks for replying.

I just wanted to make sure i can just head to duty free...hang out, pick up friend...and head back towards Coquitlam...without having to deal with customs.

You can't just "hang out" at the duty free.. You have to cross into the US border.

You can hang out at "The Derby" on 1st. Location here.

There's a pub/club down the road from the crossing. I also believe there's a restaurant with a bar just at Zero ave and the border crossing, East side.

You can also buy them a pack of ex-lax at the Campbell River store down the road and take them there to use the bathroom so they can give you the balloons you're expecting.

Also the fact that PEDOBEAR ISN'T EVEN FUCKING FUNNY. It's a retarded inside joke internet nerds use to identify other internet nerds as they snicker to each other coz only they know what it really means.

Yes it was funny at first, but to go through the effort of printing decals on your car? Pedobear is played. The Fuck. Out.

to all you guys that thanked sonick for this, please view this as well:

if the status of the info says "closed no docket info" am I in the clear?

I remember it being a pain in the ass to get a bank draft and get registered mail to mail them 150 bucks and our exchange rate was brutal at the time too. cause my name still shows up on that website. but again it only shows the court date and when i search into it further i get Status: Closed No Docket Info.
