Sad to see this place go. Albeit not the best, the ambiance was quite spectacular, and certain dishes were to die for.

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - A legend on the Vancouver waterfront is closing forever -- the Cannery Seafood Restaurant is serving its final meal in the Port of Vancouver. Manager Jeffrey Lenz says Bud Kanke of Mulvaney's, Joe Fortes and Fish House fame opened the restaurant in 1971.

He adds they'll be serving their final Salmon Wellington, roasted mussels and lobster dipping oil tonight. "After 9/11, there's been more and more security concerns involved with ports worldwide and it's gotten to the point where you require a port pass. If you don't have one, then you can't get in and obviously for a restaurant open to the public it's impossible for that to happen."

Lenz says they explored re-locating the restaurant but it didn't make economic sense. Unless there's a last minute saviour, Lenz says all the restaurant's marine antiques, dining room and kitchen supplies will be sold at an auction on April 6th.

If you were hoping to get in one last great meal, unfortunately you're out of luck, the restaurant is fully booked.

I dunno, I went there for my sisters birthday in January and I didn't think it was anything special. The location and scenery looking onto the water were really cool, but the food I thought was just alright. Nothing bad, but it wasn't anything that made me want to go back.

The Cannery used to be so good a long time ago. It kinda went downhill for a while, but then got better recently. I will miss it. The closest restaurant to The Cannery now is the Salmon House in Seattle, IMHO.

I've never been disappointed by Cannery. One of my favourite restaurants in Vancouver, and now it's gone :(

Going back for another 6 weeks this year... I can't do another full summer here ;)

Okay, that's just bragging. :p

What was your b/f's position there? Was he one of the ones that went to either the Fish House or Kettle of Fish?

If you're feeling ambitious, they have a number of their recipes on their website:

http://www.canneryseafood.com/index.php?module=Listings&nav_id=24

Not sure how much longer they will be there for cuz that page isn't available from their home page.
