Question about Buying / Selling on craigslist
Hi, a couple weeks ago i helped a friend sell his used mp3 deck right before he went overseas. He handed me the box and everything inside and just asked for me to help him get rid of it at the highest price possible. So i did, even though i have 0 knowledge about the car mp3 decks. Posted the ad on craiglist, listing the model and the specs that was shown on the box ( it was an alpine) and then some guy was interested in buying so he came to my neighborhood to take a look at it. He opened it and checked, said everything was fine but then it was missing a " sleeve " or something? I helped him ask my friend again if he had the sleeve and my friend said everything is in the box and he doesnt know where the sleeve went if it wasnt there. So i apologized to the guy and didnt make the sale.
A week after the guy called again, saying he would order the missing part online, if i sold to him at a cheaper price. Of course i'd say yes, this guy was helping me take it off my hands. He asked to meet the next day but i had school, so i gave it to my gf to make the transaction when im in school. He took it, gave the money, and didnt say a thing.
Late last night the dude called again, saying i gave him the wrong unit. He said when he finally went to install it, it was actually a pioneer mp3 deck, not an alpine. He asked me to find the original one, or hes returning it and taking his money back. He also asked me if me or my gf switched it. I remember opening the box myself when checking for an i-pod cable from another buyer before him, and i confirmed that the mp3 deck inside was the one that was shown on the box. The guy even opened it and looked it over himself, without saying " wtf this is a pioneer ", only saying it was missing a sleeve. When my gf handed the mp3 deck to him that day he couldve opened it and checked if it was the one he was looking for, but he just took it and booked it.
My question now is should i return the money back to him? I've heard people say " Buyer Beware " and i feel that because he checked it himself he should just be blaming himself for fucking up ( or trying to fuck me up ). Its not a high amount its < $100 and i can't believe hes being a big prick about it saying me / my gf switched it. Can he take any legal action against me? He also knows my address but whatever. If i shouldnt return his money do i just ignore calls from him or straight up tell him to fuck off?

Sounds like he's trying to scam you unless your GF is a bigger scammer. Tell him to F off and that you checked before selling it and there was an alpine deck in the box. In these kinds of sales it's buyer beware, sold as is, where is.
Hopefully you didn't meet him at your house.

Nope don't given him the money back, sounds like he's just trying to scam you. He should of looked at it before he gave you the money. Sounds like a idiot trying to take advantage of you.

"Take it to Judge Judy puto" then hang up the phone and stop answering his calls.
unfortunately i didnt have my car at that time and had to show him the mp3 deck outside my house. i ended up selling the mp3 deck to him for less than a bill so i really dont think he'd make that big of a hassle in order to get his money back ( he drives a porshe ffs ) i guess the next time he calls im just not gonna pick up and send him a txt explaining that he checked it himself first and politely ask him to fuck off.

he's trying to scam you, I'm guessing the reason he called back a week later was because he now had a busted pioneer deck that he was gonna use to try and scam you with. either way as soon as he handed your gf the cash and took the box it became his problem, so you can tell him to shove it.

im sure hes trying to scam u, by purposely not checking whats inside the box on the spot and trying to pull a quick one on u blaming u switched the unit.
few things learned from selling/buying on CL.
i never use my real email addy for selling, i have another on just for CL buy/sell
i always block my number
and i never meet in/near my house, always at shopping mall parking lots.

Don't take this as an insult but if I were the buyer, I could tell right away that you didn't know what you were talking about and you're vulnerable to being taken advantage of. Sleeves are cheap and I'm sure Soundsgood (sponsor on here) would be able to dig one out for $10 or so.
So was it a Pioneer deck in an Alpine box? Do you have more than 1 deck available? Possible mixup? I'm confused by the whole different deck in the box thing.
Really doesn't matter anyways unless you DO find out you mixed up the decks by accident (then of course, swap them with him). He's ultimately responsible for knowing what he's getting into before he gives you money. You can be sure that if I were the buyer, I would've brought a battery pack and a speaker to check that the deck works and made sure I was buying the same deck when I met you the second time.

To be honest, I hate both of you. There I said it.
I use CL frequently, and never had a problem until just recently, some girl tried to sell me
a phone that belong to her fiance so in other words, she knew squat about it.
Including the inaccuracy of the ad and the item.
And I can't stand people selling stuff for a friend of a friend of a friend.
I guess it really depends what is being sold, but if I bought something electronical, wanted to
test it out, ask further questions. I can't. Cause the seller knows nothing about it. It's not the
same person I have been dealing with on the phone or online
(in this case I rather just do business with the original seller, not the "agent" selling for the seller).
I would have just avoided this whole thing.
Anyway, in your case, you should just do as you were planning, text him the situation,
and just ignore him. Cause, Buyer beware for sure.

no... i remember looking at the deck myself. it looks like the one that is shown on the box, and i only have one, so no, there shouldnt be a mix up. he opened it and looked at everything inside as well. he checked all the cables and whatnot and said himself that everything seems to be okay, im sure he would check that it was the same fucking thing hes looking for.

Did he check the box again before he bought it from your gf?
If so, he definitely has no case.
And even if he didn't... it's his own fault.
So... =/

Sold something on CL? You're lucky you didn't get stabbed to death by a transvestite "masseuse". Ignore him, he has absolutely no recourse. Don't even bother responding to his texts.
