| Anybody else's Canon EFS 17-55mm f/2.8 lens focus ring loose?
My friend just lent me his 17-55mm for the upcoming weekend, but while testing the 17-55mm on a couple subjects today on my 7d, I realized that the focus ring wasn't acting like the other lenses i've owned. Even if the switch is turned to AF, the ring would still freely move, but shouldn't it be stiff and lock in place? Also, the motor makes a little humming noise for approximately ~5 seconds after focusing.
I just want to know if anybody else's 17-55mm is acting like this.
N

maybe it's the FTM focusing? Do you have any Ring-Type USM lenses? They always allow the focus ring to move even in AF.
Now for the humming.. that's odd since USM is supposed to be quiet |

ya the focus ring is supposed to be free to rotate even in AF
maybe it's not the usm motor, but the IS that's making the sound
does ur friend's zoom creep?

Yeah, it does zoom creep
and i realized that motorized sound was in fact the IS. I just turned it off.
But otherwise, thanks for answering my questions, Dragonone!

I also realized that I have lens creep... Is anybody else's lens doing the same?

but apparently it comes back even after canon services it. there's a diy fix using black rubber bands. it was originally for the 28-135. also a more invasive one that involves screws that i wouldn't dare try.
