VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Nearly three years after his death at the Vancouver International Airport, the RCMP are about to settle with Robert Dziekanski's mother. Details of a formal apology and financial compensation are expected later this morning.
According to a statement from the Mounties, this brings an end to the civil suit lauched by Sofia Cisowski against the force last fall. She and RCMP Deputy Commissioner Gary Bass are expected to appear at a news conference called for 10:00 this morning near the South Terminal of the Vancouver Airport.
During a senate hearing last May, Sweeney said the force was "very sorry" for the death of the Polish immigrant but stopped well short of admitting a mistake was made.
Today's announcement comes two weeks ahead of what would have been the Polish immigrants 43rd birthday, it was nearly three years ago when he was Tasered by four officers at YVR and died shortly after.
RIP.
