if he left her there she wouldn't get wet at all...
as long as she didn't have a brain of a monkey she would have figured that if she just moved away with her hand outreached and then just jumped out of the way the water would have fallen and she wouldn't have gotten wet..

I think the best possible way of trying to get out of that situation is to remove the stick downwards as soon as possible and catch the bowl of water... I think it would be possible to have very little water spill.

Well, I was thinking more so of how to not have the water go everywhere, not so much not only on not getting yourself wet.

That's the whole point, though... anyone CAN get out of that situation without getting wet... but they don't want the water to get all over the place, which is why they refuse to let go.
