I have a basic video card in my desktop (Nvidia 8400GS). What do I need in order to setup a dual monitor?

I have received a new LCD and would like to use it in combination with my Current LCD they are about same size and I am running Windows 7.

Any tips would be appreciated.

Need to upgrade to a video card that has dual output, or add a second video card.

I'm assuming the back of the card looks something like this:
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=48523&vpn=EN8400GS%20SILENT/P/512M&manufacture=ASUS

If it does, you will simply need a VGA cable to hook up to one of your LCD's and a DVI cable for the other. Windows (XP, Vista, 7) takes care of the rest. It will be identified and will initially clone the second monitor to mirror the primary one.

From here, you will have to select your display properties and select the option "Extend my desktop to this monitor", select a primary monitor, and you're set to go.

However, if your monitor only has one output, you're pooched.

Thats exactly what my video card looks like. Both of my monitors have DVI and VGA plugs on the back.
So i guess one will use DVI to graphic card and the second one will use VGA to graphic card.......right?

Download Ultramon as well. it's a good program for dual monitor set ups. it'll extend your task bar, double wallpaper etc etc etc.

or displayfusion (ultramon runs on a trial basis, displayfusion is free, but you lose some features)

Some games were unable to load due to DisplayFusion. I went back to Ultramon and all was well.
Try both and see which one suits you.
