Highway 1 HOV Lane Suspended Nightly Until 2013

The B.C. Government is removing the high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane restriction on Highway 1 beginning tonight, April 19.
Due to construction of overpasses and on the widening of the inter-urban corridor, the HOV lanes between Grandview Highway and the Port Mann Bridge will be open to lone drivers at night, between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. Regular HOV restrictions will continue to be in effect from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.
A bulletin from the B.C. Government's Port Mann/Highway 1 Improvement Project Group said that the night-time change will be in effect seven days a week, until sometimes in 2013, when construction should be done.
The HOV lanes on Highway 1 were introduced in 1998 to encourage carpooling, and are usually restricted 24 hours a day to bus traffic and vehicles carrying at least two people.

like new west section nearly 800 feet of roads near columnbia is 30km maxmium in terms of their speed limite. MAjor homoness, no school, no residential zone...the hell they set 30km limite for.

It makes sense since during rush hour they need to leave an empty lane to act as an emergency lane as well. (police, Ambulance, firetrucks)

I've got no problems with the HOV lane, what's ghey is when they require you have 3+ ppl in the car.

Not only that, but there is also always a bunch of cops along that road(community police station i think it is?).
So its pretty risky going above 30 on that road during the day.

They're there, in the GVRD, just fairly old and small.....and never enforced - that's the real issue.

it's about time! the problem though, as already mentioned, is it's just anotherlane for elderly people to clog up. I don't drive it as often as most of you, but I notice that the middle lane is faster than the carpool lane from 7-10pm.
A lot of people didn't care that they belonged in the slow lane, because they have a passenger they have their own special lane!!!!!!

I like to call the cops on fucktard cheaters like you. The lines are solid for a reason.

Signs like that won't help... People just don't seem to understand.
If anything... "keep right except to pass" like the US has. It's the law, they ticket people going slow in the fast lanes.
Now... are the solid lines still being enforced? Because if you enter or exit that lane across a solid line.. you're just as likely to get nailed.

That's exactly what I'm talking about.
Solid lines - probably not. I highly doubt people get tickets for going in and out of the HOV over solid lines.
Fuck, in SD, Ca. they have 4 rows of reflectors the whoooole way down the interstate for the HOV and it's a huge fine to cross over.

I see that all the time too, it pisses me off. People think just cause they have 2 or more people in the car that they have to be in the hov lane. So they go driving along below or right at the speed limit messing up the flow of traffic. Maybe every 5 years when people go to renew their license there should be a written test of common sense driving questions.

:) I havent seen anyone get nailed for going over a solid line on the highway. My buddy got ticketed for that in Cali though :D

I wouldn't think the solid line would be enforced. I've seen sections where the line doesn't break even though there is an exit nearby. Police can't expect people to take the next exit because the line was solid.
