Anyone a BC Sheriff on RS? if so, please tell us about your job, the pro's and con's, career paths, and when they will be hiring again.
TIA!
I work alongside them sometimes... it's pretty easy IMO
obviously you have to be able to deal with difficult an dirty ppl
con's would probably be union, downtime with certain positions, shift work
possible career path's of course would lead to either police or moving up the ranks in BC sheriffs
curious why BC sheriff's?

If you don't mind me asking, what do you do exactly with BC Sheriffs?
I'm not worried with working with sketchy people. I see more benefits with an union than without.
Shift work? I was under the impression that they work 9-5, Mon-Fri, with the occasional Saturdays?
Why? because I like being in Law Enforcement, and working Monday-Friday vs. 4 days on/off is more appealing to me.

My sister is, has been for years. I believe she's currently teaching firearms training at the JI.
I don't know about an "easy" job; I know she had some pretty rough ones. For a while she worked prisoner transport from the VPD jailhouse to the courts... one of her charges were the home invaders who had broken into to an elderly couple's house and beat them both to within an inch of their lives. Having to transport those scum and NOT hammering the living shit out of them was one of the hardest parts of her entire career.

Hey Soundy, I know this may seem weird, but I was wondering if I can have a e-mail conversation or MSN chat with your sister?
I have some questions that I want to ask in regards to having a career as a Sheriff.

I'll ask her - pm me your email and if she wants to, she can contact you.
keep in mind that her husband is a transit cop and former sheriff as well - he has a gun AND a taser!

I have a buddy that works for sheriffs. Like you said willy, the shifts are monday to friday 9-5.
The last time I talked to him, he said that the sheriffs profession is starting to be more like policing. From what I remember, he said that they talking about implementing assault rifles in some of their work?
However, they won't be hiring for a while. He said they won't be hiring until 2012 at the earliest.

There are cutbacks on all levels of government, particularly in Law Enforcement, as they don't generate any revenue.

yea, i would still keep it as one of your goals if that's what you want to do
but meanwhile develop yourself down another career path, it doesn't have to be related, just make yourself more valuable and experienced/educated
i know, sounds kinda obvious, but some ppl put their lives on hold for the hopes of getting into law enforcement
